Dad who allowed daughter, 14, to use vehicle is arrestedGirl loses control of the truck after leaving nightclub; two passengers also are injuredA father has been arrested after his 14-year-old daughter's excursion to a southwest Houston nightclub resulted in a wreck, seriously injuring herself and two other teens. A prosecutor hopes the arrest of Barry Martin Holste, 53, will send a message to other parents. Holste, of the 5400 block of Ariel, is charged with injury to a child, a felony.Danielle Holste, 14, was driving her father's Dodge Durango just after 10 p.m. last Thursday when she lost control of the truck on an exit ramp in the 7200 block of the Southwest Freeway, near Bellaire. Two passengers, ages 15 and 16, were critically injured. They remain in intensive care, one with a broken neck and the other with bleeding in the brain that has caused seizures. Holste was released from the hospital with a leg cast. The trio had left the Coco Loco club in the 5700 block of Hillcroft shortly before the accident happened, Diepraam said. The truck veered on to a grassy median and struck a light pole head-on, police said. She was ticketed for having no driver's license, no car insurance and failing to drive in a designated lane. She later told authorities her father allowed her to drive the car. Barry Holste arrived at the scene of the accident not long after it happened, and spoke with Houston police officers there.According to the criminal complaint, the father told authorities he let his daughter take the truck and was not concerned about it because he had done so several times. He acknowledged his daughter had no formal training to drive and knew it was against the law to allow her to drive.Hospital records for all three teens have been subpoenaed to help determine whether any of the minors had consumed alcohol or drugs before the crash.
