For those in the know, what's your opinion on the
Sony 42" Grand WEGA™ HDTV (KDF-42WE655)?

Is it as good as it looks?

LCD Rear Projection? I wonder how that ranks against DLP.

Go see them first hand

I favor the LCD Projectors...the Sony is great.  The Hitachi and Panasonics are also very nice.

DLP...I dont know, its "too good to be true" for me.  We have several on the sales floor and the clarity doesnt seem on par with the LCD Projectors.  Others, looking at the same thing, swear it is.

The JVC version seems to be the best variant of DLP Ive seen.

The Samsungs also seem to be the best of the bunch.  But, every Samsung item Ive owned has failed, fried or thrown fits within 30 days of warranties ending.  I'm not testing my karma with a $2000+ tv.

Check Epinions.Com as well.

The biggest thing is the right size screen for your room.  A 60" prjection screen is max overkill if you are less than 10 feet away (wholly pixelation, Batman!).  The Sony LCD projectors come in nice sizes, 42, 50 and 55 I think

Gyro, at the beginning of this year I was going to buy the Sony 42" LCD projection TV. However I could never find any in stock. I did some more research and decided on the Panasonic PT-50LC13. They can now have it when they pry it our of my dead, cold hands.

Played Doom3 on it and it was incredible. I think LCD/Projections are the best picture for the price that you can get at the moment. Heck, the only think that can go wrong with them is the bulb.

Oh, and go for the 50". :)

That's a good model

One of our employees bought one (got a great discount too).  We didnt see or hear from him for 3 days after.  We had a few theories...

1) Had connected TV to PC and was lost in Call of Duty

2) Had connected XBOX and was lost in some game

3) Porn movies

4) More porn movies

The few DLPs I saw didn't look as bright or sharp as the Sony. Could be the way they were setup? Don't really know.

I'm about 9 feet from the screen, give or take a half foot. Even the 42" looks big. :) I measured off 9 feet when I checked the 42" at the store. Picture looked great from there. Found a pdf of the manual on the web. They have 6 feet as the min view range.

Makarov9, everone has them now.
