Discovery Wings Channel going away
« on: December 06, 2004, 11:34:26 PM »
Its kind of a bitter sweet  event.  I have long adored the Dwings channel, but as of late it has become a real pile of crap.

Not only has there been very little new programming I gave a crud about, but they had begun to relist old programs as new ones.   80% of their programming for the year 2004 has claimed to be 'new' and '2004', but almost all of it was rehashed programming with nothing more than a new title screen.  Countless times I'd see what looked like a new program, only to discover it was an old show from 1994 or so, just renamed for tv guide.  I can only guess that it was an attempt to bilk advertisers with claims of XX% new programing.

The channel will now be the Military Channel, which will hopefully loosen up the programming reigns a bit, but still stay on target.  I hope this will also get some of the military programming off of the other Discover networks.  Id really like to see a more consistant programming base, and stop seeing the same 3 programs run for 24 hours at a time, 3 days a week.  I like an early and late running for the west and east coast, but wish we didnt have only 3 programs running for 24hours.

Now hows about some HD huh!

Yeah I know. There was another post about this in the O club.

Everytime I watched that station, I kept seeing the same shows drunk over for a few days straight for like that past 5 years
It will be ww2 next vietnam,etc..then some girl Learning to Fly, which was very fun to watch.

there use to be a "Military Channel"  along with "Discovery Wings" back when I was on C-Band in the 90's....had some good flicks on the Military Channel which showed regularly ...shows like combat, 12 O'Clock High, Rat Patrol and so forth along with numerous WWII movies.......

it left C-Band and went Digital

if this is what is going to replace Discovery-Wings then I am all for it!

Agreed that the D Wings channel needs some new programing badly.

Not sure if I like the move to the military channel or not.  Or if this gives them 2 more years to keep showing the same stuff with new advertisers..

Wait & see  I guess.

HT, does this change the new commercial?

WHat I hate the most about the tv shows on ww2 is when you see what looks like a cool show on the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the 1st minute in the into to that....then they go to the standard "Dec 7th 1941...the Japanese Empire launches a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor..." and they milk the whole show on stuff we've seen a million times, until the last 5 minutes where they might show some stuff you were interested in.

Man I hate that. " Next on the History channel...the subpens of the nazi war machine!"....."Sept 1939..Hitler rolls into Poland blah blah blah!"

You know I hate it when that happens...its like the threads here that wound good...but end up being 'perk the La7'  or 'low level bomber' whines.....

I'll reserve judgement.  So long as we dont get another TechTV fiasco.....does ANYONE watch that channel anymore now thats its twich GaMeZ d00Dz channel.
