You can make a Harley, like any other vechicle as fast as you want it.
If you have never been to a The Nitro Harley finals , you have def missed a ground shaking , eye opening experience.
Ricers make a lot of ding ding ding sounds zipping up and down the streets, basicaly being a nuisance and and embarressment for the motorcycle world.
If you wanted to go reallllly fast I guess you could hang some lights, windshield, etc on a rail dragster and zoom up and down the street looking ridiculous. Sorta like a ricer. The thing is I wouldn`t want to take off on a road trip driving the dragster and expect it to hold up. Same with the ricers. Here today, gone tommorow.
Yups have been the biggest downfall to the Harley world. Running up prices with the 'IN"thing to do. ( I will have to say though, I took a lot of that old moldy *** Yup money from their pockets in the business. )
Number one rule for the pure Harley rider: Never, ever, ever go to an "Authorized Harley " dealer for anything. Not parts, oil, apparel....anything. They are there to take Yup`s money and grin.
I`ve got an ole `61 model I have had for a long , long time. Stretched, chopped, lowered, extended. Strictly Old School.  S&S from top to bottom internaly. Printed, stroked, bored, balanced. 10 plate Barnetts with racing springs....... just for that Oh Yea feel when she grabs.
Wanna turn the little ladie`s head? Just putt her down the road. Never fails. :D

Well Jackal. What would happen if everyone road harleys instead of Ricers?

How would you be able to look better than them anymore? :)

Honestly, I really dont like bikes all that much. They are fun, neat, a toy, cool... Yeah.

I get more enjoyment from going on a cruise with some friends. Be it down to Sea Side park in NJ or just down some interstate in our cars. I will most likely never own another bike, ever again, and will most likely always have a Mustang. Thats just me tho. Critisize all you want guy. I wish I were as perfect. :)

jakal...  I like old school..  I am old school.   I would probly like your bike a lot.  Apparel?  yep... thought I was walking into some weird leather village people version of macy's or something instead of a Harley shop.

streetstang... How would you like it if everyone drove mustangs?  you are the one who started all the hostility toward anything not mustang now you want us to just quit picking on you and celebrate diversity?

As the original owner of a 1996 Impala SS....I love to spank the 5.o rustangs in a 4 door 4200lb car.
Now that ford has stepped up the bar with the 05's I will have to start some major mods to compete with the 05's.
The thing with the 05's is you have to be able to disable their traction control to get them to do burn outs etc. With minimal mods a new stang can easily get into the 12's around 109 mph. Guess I'm gonna have to get a GTO now.

With us mostly being mustang guys, we love nothing more than to knock on the SS owners doors at the track. A few of our friends do have Chevys. Mostly cameros, one's got a chevelle, 67 SS. Pretty sweet car.

This years mini-challenge was between my friends 2002 GT, and another friends Camero SS. Both basicly stock, stick cars. Minimal mods done to both, nothing that couldnt be bolted on in an hour or so. No bottles. On street tires. Was fun, because both were stock, and we made rules about what they could do to their cars, or couldnt do.

Here they come. :)

There they are. :)

There they go...

Doh! Chevy wins that round, but just by a hair! hehe. :) How much did you pay for that SS? lol

It was good fun for these guys. It always is when we go. Which is just about every weekend. And most of the weds. nights. Always a little bet to be had. All in good ol fashioned fun. The mustang ended up winning, by a 10th in the last rnd. Best 3-4.

Koda, unless your going to start racing Cobras, the O5GTs are nothing spectacular. MID to low 13s, and thats with a good driver. And there is no way on gods green earth that your impalla SS, stock will start beating Cobras. They are low 12 second cars stock... WIth chity drivers.  Their traction control can be turned off with the flip of a switch, so burnouts will never be a problem.

Ya see, that`s just the thing. Everyone that is a true Harley fanatic adds, customizes, changes things on your scoot to make it "yours", a one of a kind. That is what is so cool about spending a little time in a place like Sturgis. During bike week at Sturgis there will be anywhere from 500,000 to 750,000 Harleys there. You will very rarely see two Harleys alike.

LOL Yea it is really amazing at what you see in some of these shops now.
I was in Sturgis a few years ago and decided I needed a chrome himes joint for my extended controls. An "authorized" Harley dealer sets up there every year in a big warehouse sized building. Since it was handy I thought I would just pop in, grab the part, head back to camp and put it on, no prob. Wrong
I walked in this place to see what appeared to be an acre of shiny and leather thingymabobs, etc. Way in the back was a small counter marked Parts Dept. I waited in line for Mr and Mrs Yupster to do their thing. The three guys behind the counter had on white shirts, pants pressed to a T and enough gold stuff hanging around and on em to embarass Mr T.
I pulled the himes joint out and handed it to Jr. behind the counter. He turned it around and around in his hand, then went and consulted with Jr.#2 , who consulted with Jr#3.
Jr.#3 got this enlightened look on his face and headed in the back. He returned with a smile on his face and an "Authorized" Harley package in his hand. He handed it to me and I couldn`t help it...... I busted out laughing. He had retrieved me a banjo fitting for a fatbob tank setup.
I cruised on down to J&L , got my himes joint and went for a putt.

jakal..  even back when.. we never went to Harley shops.. that was for the dresser crowd and such..  nothing much there for us.

street... I have had both fords and chevies.   a motor is a motor.. it is just an air pump.  You can build a chevy a lot cheaper.   Chevies dominate the HP race.   there is simply more money spent on research.   Mustangs are nice... they are uncomfortable and they tend to swap ends too easy and handle in an evil way but they are a lot of bang for the buck... a good deal.

I have an el camino and an Austin Healey.   Both have chevy engines for various reasons.   I had mustangs but even if I could get em into the 12's and be smog legal like my el camino I couldn't haul a refrigerator or washer dryer with em.   plus...

I can find both of my cars in the parking lot... sometimes that was a little hard with the mustangs.

Oh... I do have a Lincoln town car that I use to take trips in with the grand daughter and girlfriend.  Nice car.

but go ahead and think that the only way to go is with a ford...or worse.. a mustang.   cuts down on what you have to learn I guess.

and.... I can put up with your penchant for calling other men "cute" but...

using the expression "my bad" is unforgivable... anyone who does so should be dismissed as totaly irrelevant.

What is the song in the video?  Heard it before but can't place it.

In my garage:  89 F Body 5.0.  Twisted Wedge Heads and intake, cam, roller rockers, headers, etc ect.  Quick and sounds great.

Yep. There are still a few carrying the authorized stamp that skirts the suits policies that you can depend on and get what you need, but very few.
Some of these guys have the frills and "Instant Easyrider" stuff but still are pretty Old School behind the scenes. Barnett in El Paso has some pretty in the know folks even though they are gigantic. They still remember who and what got them there.
Old man Brown and his behemoth "boys" are pretty much of a legend. :)
Guess my fav here in Texas has to be the guy in Temple who was refused the official Harley stamp because he wouldn`t cut his hair off and wear their "uniforms" to get their approval. He sued Harley and won, got the stamp and put in the shop. Sorta in your face to the wigs that you gotta get a chuckle out of.
J&L Cycle has always, to my way of thinking been real dependable and they had and still have a good rep.
They couldn`t resist the lure of the big Yup money, but you sure can`t blame them for that. They still speak the language.
I happened to be in Sioux Falls S. D. last year visiting my daughter and son-in law (Deth1) at the same time they were having their Grand opening for their new monster size "official" Harley dealership.
They had on display some scoots that didn`t exactly walk the line of the suits.
They also had an acre or so of the "cute stuff". :)
One guy walked by headed to the front where the scoots were and said " Oh cool, they put some motorcycles in this dress shop".  :)

I pretty much like the attitude of Texans..  California is pretty much a lost cause even in the North now...  the PC and aura folks are real quick to come out of the woodwork and point a hysterical finger at any aberant behavior.

Lot of my buds in the modified Healey club live in Texas and they are a fun bunch.  When I went to the AH convention they kidnapped me for a night of driving chevy and ford powered Healeys and jensens and even a 240z...  hundred plus on city streets but they were wide and commercial and unpopulated and... it didn't take long to get up there and back down in those cars.

Harley shops are really strange... mostly just a place to transform accountants into village people look alikes.
