We don't have a national cuisine.
So, instead of always having to eat Italian food, or French or Chinese, we can say, "Hey, honey! Whaddya feel like eating tonight? Mexican? Japanese? Lutefisk?"
What makes you think that the availability of international cuisine is solely an American privilege? I live in a tiny little town on a tiny little island, and within 5 miles of here we have a most marvellous Spanish restaurant, various Indian restaurants, also Chinese, Thai, Greek, an Italian Trattoria... Best of all is an Italian "ristorante" about 12 miles from here - one of the only places where I will order a dessert because they are so good. It
really is Italian too - run by Italians who were born in Italy. These are just examples. There are others. No Olive Garden crap here, and none of this "Hi I'm Jade, and I'll be your server tonight". (In the US, I normally pre-empt that with "Hi, I'm Alan and I'll be your customer tonight")
I don't know what it is about some Americans who have something good, and then assume that they're the
only country to have it. Oh wait - I do. They've never been out of the US.
