yes another revisited request to HTC about changing the icons in the game.

with all the new skins out there, and the new plane varients, it is getting more and more diffucult to tell what you are fighting.

there are silver skins for the p51B and green skins for the p51D, the P38 varients will undoubtably have the same thing sort of.

i have posted in other threads about this, but will restate my thoughts here.

not everyone can see the tiny distinctions in the enemy plane until within 50 yards or less (or 25 yards in my case).

also in the real war there was not going to be a p51d engagement with a 109E4 for example, so telling the varients was not as big of a factor as in the MA. in the MA with the munge of planes from so many different theaters, and era's it is almost impossible to tell what you are fighting without some visual aids.

yes visual aids that in real life were not there. in real life i got to see the test card for my friends grandfather's plane identification test. there were only about 15 planes, and there were ways to point out the differences.

as stated many many many times on the BBS here, a 17" computer monitor is not even close to real life eyesight, and natural plane identification is nearly impossible. let alone memorizing the 90 some planes wwe have in game.

i would like to humbly beg that HTC look into changing the icons to 190d / p51d / p38j / yakt / spit5 / 109g and so on.

the varient addition would be a great thing to add to gameplay in my opinion.

thank you for your time
I don't know what to put here yet.

JB,  I agree and have had the same thought for quite some time.  Besides next time I come across a 190 and it is one of the JB's I can tell more quickly you are in a 190D instead of seeing that stretched out fuselage for identification.  And yes I will most likely be in my spitV.  >S<

Game plan is to have Icons change to full desciption I.E. P51D vs P51 when you get withing a certian range.

HiTech

Will this affect perk icons too?  Will they be generic (F4U, SPIT) until they are within the full ID range?

Thanks for responding to this issue HTC.

JB73, here's my workaround till HTC implements the icon change.

I have created different engine sounds for the 109 G10 and FW 190 D9. That way I can tell instantly from the engine sound if it's one of the other 190s or a D-9, same for the 109 series. The differences between a G2 or G6 are not that big, but a G10 is a big difference.

Just go into your sounds folder, make a copy of the original G-10 sound and save it as G-10bak. Remember the correct file name, then delete the G10 sound file. Then choose any sound you want for the G-10 engine, for example the 262 jet engine sound. Make a copy of the 262 engine sound, then rename it to the G-10 file name. Voila, when a G-10 is nearby, you know it because it sounds like a jet engine.

You can get pretty silly with this. You could make sounds like a voice saying " A8, A8 , A8 " or assign the tank tread sound to the A8.

that is great news hitech thank you for responding!

matrix... i wouldn't count on that... there are 2 JB's that fly the A5 almost exclusivly and another that flies the A8 almost all the time.

then 42 likes to take F8's on any type of attack

LOL

MOSQ... not a bad idea, but you gotta be pretty drn close to hear the engine of the other plane, and i like the immersion of the realistic sounds / gunsights / all that.
