The mic function and RW are total unrelated .

The mic functions is just there for future use.

I'd rather see a new plane wait 2 weeks in order to get this feature sooner than later

I'm sure others would disagree, but this game is simply ten times better when you are able to talk to your wingman/squad.

I would like to  see a patch that would let me map the F12 (or whatever key) to my joystick to allow RogerWilco to work. And spend those 2 weeks on the new plane    If this is possible now, slap me once and tell me how, please =)

Considering how long it took Resounding Technology guys to come up with Roger Wilco, I would say it would take HTC a bit more then two weeks.
They are the foremost experts in flight sim programming, not in voice comms, so they would have to waste time learning voice transmission technology and then more time trying to come up with a decent product.
There are several good products already available (RW, BattleCom) built by experts. Use those untill the new DirectX comes from Microsoft - it is supposed to have the DirectVoice API. Then it will be possible for any game to easily implement the voice comms.

To be more specific, DirectX 8.0 is supposed to incorporate Battle Commander. I don't know how that affects RW, but I personally prefer RW to BC.

I've got RW mapped to my X36 combo with no problem.

We have a perfectly good product in RW. Plus, if you build it in it will just make it that much tougher for those who prefer BC, or some other 3rd party software. (and who knows WHATS comeing next!)

Why build it in?

As to setting your trans key to your stick,
I had no problem at all doing it with my sidewinder.

Just make sure the same key set set for stickmapping, joystickmapping, & your stick software.

tip, I like to use the tilde " ~ " key, NOTHING uses it.

With the AH tuner page for RW it's virtually the same as haveing it built in anyway.

if you don't know what I'm talking about.

The downside to using a 3rd party program is this:

You are flying in the arena.  You decide you want to wing with someone.  You have used Roger Wilco before and have it loaded... he's never heard of it.  He has BFC loaded... you don't.  If both of you do have one.. you have to leave the game, fire it up, then restart the game.

Basically, having it in the game allows for you to hook up with whomever you want when you want.. instantly.  You know that if they are playing the game, they have voice comms available.

If I remember well, there was a mention of HTC working in coop with Resounding...tell me if I am wrong...

IMHO, existing voice Comms are good, the only thing we need is an In Game  "channel" switcher : something like the radio channels, but in Voice (where you would be able to brodcast on Ch 2, 147 or private...).

BC is great , but don't forget to get the right compression setting & let it heat a bit, I noticed that it's a bit squetchy the 1 st minutes, but gets better after a while...

Also, I know that AH is set on UDP, someone knows on what protocol the voice coms use ?

SAW beat me to it... Pyro or HT said they're working with RW on something.  That was last month.

I agree.  This is the very reason I'd like to see it in place.  The thing is, in order to do this, the voice coms have to be part of the game.  How else would you set up the RW server?

I don't know what it would entail.  I have no expectations of imediated delivery.  I only know that of any single addition (OK.. replaced "Modification" with "addition") you could do to the game, this one would be most impacting.

I guess none of you guys ever played Air Warrior??
They have had voice coms in for a long long time now, I personally cant imagine HTC being beaten by such an old game. The voice in AW is as good as rw at least, me n my squad used it all the time. Not like the cheezy non working one in wb, this one is real good. Im sure HTC will get this going eventually.
It adds so much to the game I could not imagine not getting it sooner or later.

All you need to do is set the mic key in RW to F12 or whatever key you want to use, then just remap the key to the joy stick button that you want to use... works for RW,BC & Teamstream
