the saddes thing I saw was a place where dead kids-small ones, looked like dolls, were laid in a neat row, some covered, some not, and a woman(probably mother) was coming out of it crying.

this is ****ing terrible! :(

I guess the UN is saying that almost 1/3rd of the victims are kids....made me cry...EDIT ok maybe not cry but upset me none the less

CUDDALORE, India - The buzz of grim conversation in the darkened morgue was broken by a man’s shriek as the small body was lowered on a bed. “My son, my king!” wailed Venkatesh, hugging the limp shrouded bundle

Thousands of miles away in Indonesia, farmer Yusya Yusman aimlessly searched the beaches for his two children lost in Sunday’s tsunami. “My life is over,” he said emotionlessly.

On the day disaster struck, Malaysian Rosita Wan recalled watching in horror as her 5-year-old son was gulped by the sea while he swam near the shore at Penang.

“I could only watch helplessly while I heard my son screaming for help. Then he was underwater and I never saw him again,” said a sobbing Rosita, 30.

sad indeed.

it looks different in the pacific, there is a tsunami warning station
to warn the shores.
God only knows why its only exist there.

99% of those that died wouldn't have a clue what a tsunami is, nor what to do, and are likely not to believe it. Some of the footage showed a pile of people down at a beach to take photos after the first wave, only to get wasted by a second surge.

Pretty good, the wife and I blew our "$250 budget" on our 3 year old son.  All told he made out with over $400.   These first several are "his".   :)

Really? Can't say I shed a tear, but that was one badass disaster. What's worse, is like 30,000 people die every day from starvation, the greater percentage children, or was my google search wrong? If I'm right, you guys pick newsworthy stuff to weep and grandstand about. Fine if you do, just don't hate me for not giving much more than my tax dollars or a rats ass.

From an ethics class discussion... there is a faction who holds the logic of feeding/aiding a people that can't support themselves makes the problem worse.  If you feed the starving kids, they grow up and have more kids, which multiplies the problem.  Better to let them starve off so the ecology balances itself out.

Not saying this is my standpoint, but I did think it made for an interesting point of view.

I'm not usually an emotional person but I am a father of 2 and this tore me up when I read it.

kinda like give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him forever

A tremendous amount of grief and suffering over there. Its horrible.

I read about some scuba divers at 50 foot depth off Shri Lanka that were picked up by the tsunami and deposited inland, on the side of a hill!

It seems the receeding tsunami is far more devastating than when it is incoming, due to it pulling people out to sea ...

The death toll is more than 44,000 now.
