Saitek X52 for AH
« on: December 28, 2004, 06:07:44 AM »
Hi

I've been thinking of buying a saitek X52 joystick-throttle combination mainly for use with aces high. The few reviews that i've read have given positive results for it, but the recent troubleshooting posts of X52 in this forum are somewhat disturbing. So what do you say X52 users? Is it any good or no and worth of the money?

I would grab a X45 in place of the X52 if you can

Any particular reasons for the x45?

I have had several X45's over the past several years, since they first come out.

It had enough program options and a much better feel, tighter spring, less throw than the X52

IMO, others are happy with X52. I find it harder to fly with looser feel and even harder to shoot/aim correctly.

maybe I'll get used to it or maybe it will find a new home via eBay

Hmm.. what about the durability of the X45? Does it endure usage and time well? My current joystick is a logitech wingman 3d and after some two years of more or less random use it is presenting signs of wear and tear. Mainly the center areas of the axis are sloppy and it is impossible to hold it in place or perform accurate movements because the x- and y-values from the stick are wandering around.

X52 advertises its non-contact potentiometers, so i'd imagine that it would hold up against wear and tear pretty well.

I'm also thinking about buying a Thrustmaster Cougar and CH Pro pedals from a web auction similar to ebay. The price of that package would be about twice the x45/52, but when compared to the retail prices of cougar and pro pedals, it is a bargain.

whenever I purchased an X45 i also picked up a service warranty. They wear out in less than a year but with the warranty, wasn't an issue. I just popped into my local ComUSA and exchanged it, picking up another serive warranty for another $10 at the same time...

This has worked well for about the last 4/5 years but the last time my tigger went flaky in my X45 about 2 weeks ago, when I stopped into the CompUSA to exchange it, all they had were X52's. Got $80 credit towards a new X52 and have been fighting it since...

that is my experience, yours maybe total opposite as many others love the thing
