Don't give up hope! There is a way to make the 4way view hat into an 8way. It simply requires you removing the switch, or breaking down the stick to get access to it, and modifying it. I have taken mine apart to investigate, and it is possible to do, but am using my ForceFx and just haven't found the time to do it. I believe it will also work on my Fx.
Basically, the actual button part of the hat removes from the switch by removing a screw on the back of it. Take it out. Then you need to trim away the plastic from the switch housing, enabling the rod of the 'hat button' to move in the diagonal and engage 2 switch/buttons at the same time. Or you could call CH on the phone and tell them you have a Fighterstick and need a replacement hat. You will then have to install it, which I think, if my memory serves me, you will have to solder into the circuit board located in top handle of controller.
