About your approaches, the trick is to get the hang of diving at a point behind him when you start the run. You want to smoothly level out behind and below him and make a nice sneaky shot from his low 6. It takes a long time to get the hang of it, but you need to watch your target and try and predict where he is going to go. After a while, you will be able to predict where he will be, and arrange to get yourself there at the right altitude, trimmed well, and with time to shoot. It just takes practice. Also, whenever you see somebody in an E fighter like the Pony or F4U racking up kills... follow them. Forget about getting your own kills, just watch them and follow them. You will learn tons this way, and get a few kills along the way as they evade the leader and fall into your lap.
