I watched the interview with my wife last night and have a better opinion of her. The photos were taken before the incident (single, no skills, daughter to raise), she clearly didn't know he was married (he actually officially comes out to her on that on one of the police tapes) she didn't let him lead her on once she started to get wise, and once her police friend did the background check for her and found out he was "the scott peterson" she immediately contacted the police and offered to help. [edit: She was suspicious for other reasons and asked him to check out her boyfriend -- she didn't know about the case at the time] Also, I had sex on the first meeting with I girl I ended up dating for 5 years, and It was far less of a play then Scott put on her to get it so I can cut her some slack there too .

As for the cashing in... sadly there will be many people who do, and would have whether she does or not. As a single mother, with no real job skills and with money tight, I can cut her some slack for going along with the program and perhaps providing for her daughters education.  Not the classy move, but then I don't walk in her shoes or live in her glass house.

In fact I beleive is should be the parents or closest next of kin that determines the penalty and not a jury in such cases.

God forbid it were my kid I wouldnt give him death. I would want him placed in my custody to do with as I please.

I find it somewhat scary that the jury managed to convict the guy with nothing but circumstantial evidence.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that they are going to execute the guy for being a liar (and a poor one at that).

My wife followed this case VERY closely
Almost religiously throughout the entire case.

I had the same concerns but
From what she was telling me  it wasnt just that there was SOME circumstantial evidence along the way that pointed to Scott
It was more like there was circumstantial evidence EVERY step of the way that pointed to Scott to the point where it was overwhelming.

The only real question I have is how he managed to get her out of the boat by himself without flipping it.

I know my mom passed out some years back and I tried moving her and I remember the tough time I had witrh that.
Dead weight is'nt the easiest thing in the world to move. Let alone roll off the side of a boat with weights attached

No witnesses.
No cause of death.

Maybe Peterson did do it. Hell, he probably did, but if we as a society are going to put him to death, i think that we should KNOW that he did indeed commit the crime.


Tip for all... if your wife turns up missing and then dead, you better show some grief even if you hated her guts.

wasnt much better to do.

In the case of OJ there was alot of plausible alternatives to the evidence.
The glove that didnt fit.

The  Furman credibility issue and others.

In that case although I whole heartedly beleive he did it. according to the law I also would have had to find him not guilty

In the Peterson case.
The defence wasn't able to successfully debunk a single piece of evidence.

Even their expert fell apart on the stand under cross examination.

and somehow I dont think that she was possibly "kidnapped by a cult" is a very plausible alternative

2 cases both men guilty only 1 man found guilty.

1 case that was fubared almost from the start by law enforcement and poorly prosecuted in trial

1 case where law enforcement did everything right and brilliantly built and prosecuted their case

I saw it live.
The gloves didn't fit.
the funny part to me was how surprised OJ seemed to be at the time

but I do agree they shrunk.

There was alot more to it then that.
and like I said I believe he did it, I believe he is guilty as hell
 Its just that according to the law I would have had to make the same verdict.
The defense made enough of holes in the prosecutions case to warrant that verdict. Even if it was the wrong one.

In the case of Peterson. the defense didn't even come close
