Video Editing For AH movies
« on: January 07, 2005, 05:39:50 PM »
Going to comp store tomorrow. Got a blow out sale there on just about everything so I'm gonna take a wad and see what I can waste it on.

My question is, what software is the "BEST" for editing films... After they are converted that is. And also, is there any sofware that converts AHFilms into MPEG other than the film viewer we are supplied with from AH?

I wanted to start putting some films together backed with music and some text maybe. But I dont want it to be middle of the line, mediocor junk. I'd like some good software to work with, some that has been used by some of you all who have experience with AHFilms.

only the AH viewer will convert things into MPEG form the AHF file....period.

You can however use FRAPS to capture in game footage 'as you see it'

The best video editing software for the $$$ is Sonys Vegas Movie Studio (not to be confused with the $500 vegas 5.0).  Its under $100 and rock solid stable, has support for MPEG, AVI and WMV.  The new version also includes a DVD burning suite.

Id stay as far away from anything Pinnacle as you can.  Dont be fooled by reviews....the software is a bugfest and has been for 4 versions....It typically crashes every 2-3 minutes on every system Ive installed it on.

Now if you got $500, Id get Vegas 5.0 or Adobe Premier.....but unless you REALLY need it...its a waste of money.  99% of all the tings you want are in the cheaper Movie Studio version.

It's up to you how much you want to spend.  You have to look at how much your going to use it, whether or not to spend a ton of money on it.

Here is some links to editors...
Sony Family

Adobe

Fraps

They offer the ability to convert video to your mpeg, wmv, and qt. If you have the codecs you can do the same thing with virtual dub for free.
Those editors just give you more bells and whistles than windows movie maker.

Thanks for the input guys. I got some reading to do before tomorrow. I've always been a big fan of adobe, not for the price obviously. But its a great name and offers great options at pretty much everything you would need. I must say, sony looks nice too, and for the price, well its hard not to take a second look.

I remember watching some movies you did streem, and they came out great. I think you said you used sony as well?

Anyways, thanks again guys.

Yeah actually I have Sony Vegas 5.  I like it, it has an easy interface with the user.  I use mine quite a bit, not only for AH but for other things.

Here is where I picked up mine at.  http://www.videoguys.com/

Picked up Adobe Premiere Pro along with Photoshop CS. Well actually I downloaded them and burnt them to disk.

Premiere pro is nice. A bit confusing at first but once you work out all of the confusion with different comands and such, its quite remarkable how nice it works.

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.
