I got mine just before X-mas. Depending on what stick your coming from, it can be a pain to get use to. I was playing this game for about 2 months before switching from my old beat up sidewinder PP2. After the switch I was back to step 1 in my flying ability, it's so frustrating(X52 has a huge unadjustable dead zone compared to PP2)! It's been a few weeks now and I still have troubles with riding stalls and aggressive ACMs do to the totally different feel of the sticks. I shopped around before buying and I will say it feels a lot like the other Saitek sticks, so if your coming from one of those you should be fine. Don't get me wrong, I really like the X52 and the button lay out is awesome, just frustrating getting into dogfights and trying to pull manuvers I could always do but now spin outta control! LoL, I'll stop whining now. I have gotten better with it and I do like it so I'd say overall I am happy with it, just expect to be below par for a little bit after you buy it:D

I had the X45 before but after testing the tension on the X52 I do notice it is MUCH looser than the X45, but I think I'm gonna love that. One issue I have been plagued by for the entire time I've had the X45 has been "groaning" and "stiffness" in the stick...no not THAT type.

I think it is due to the humidity here. I've had to use various lubes to get it to be even reasonable to control fine movement when aiming etc. (this just gets worse and worse if you have a filthy mind..lol) The fact that the X52 odesn't use pots will be a huge benefit for me.

We shall see.

It wasn't the looseness that bothered me, it was how imprecise the motion seemed.

I see SuperDud also noticed a deadband that couldn't be removed. I felt it was more like dead spots all along the X and Y axis, most predominant on the Y-axis.

I exchanged my first one after a couple of days. I tried to tolerate the second one (which was better, the dead spots were primarily on the Y-axis) for about a week.

I finally took it back for a refund. I don't believe it was a matter of getting used to the stick. I think it was non-functional.

Because the second stick was better than the first, and because I've read of similar experiences describing different degrees of the same phenomenon, I think it may be a part or manufacturing problem that might get ironed out after a while. I also think it's possible to get a stick that doesn't exhibit the problem at all.

I've been using the x45 for 2 tears ,replaced the spring with one from one of my kids toy guns works great now,also put liquid graphite on the slide has helped more than anything,was using pedals when playing IL2 but broke them one evening so dont use those anymore.

Okay..two things I can't figure out:

1. How do I get the rotaries to work as my manual trim?

In the joystick selection screen under Setup I can see that moving the rotaries do exactly what they are supposed to do but in-game they don't work.

2. The mini-stick on the throttle seems to be unable to work the way I want it to.

On my X45 I had this mapped to put my flaps up and down on the Y axis and to map zoom on the X axis. I REALLY want this to be the same on my X52.

As far as deadzones go...I kind of see what you guys are talking about but until I play around some more I have no comment as yet.

LoL, finally broke down and plugged in my old Sidewinder PP2 stick, broken hat and all. Just got out of MA using my X52 and getting into a 3 on 1. During this encounter I actually got behind the La5 and Nik I was engaged with but was unable to get a shot off do to the stick. Also spun outta control several times during the fight. Finally died when I spun into the water LOL. Think I'm gonna just practice offline till I get use to it. G/L to those of you who have one also, hope it's going better for you.

Gilligan...errr Curval will spend the next 3 weeks trying to figure out how to do the rotaries as trim...

In the mean time I will kill all his Squadies with my X45..clue to X45 stiffness..AstroGlide Personal Lubricant...works for my stick and it'll work for yours LOL

lol...you called it Mac...but it was 2 days....fixed it in 10 minutes on the third.

I now have an issue with mouse drift that is apparently hardware related. I'm not happy with Saitek right now but I'll get it all sorted eventually.
