AH crashes on launch
« on: December 06, 2004, 03:29:05 PM »
Suddenly AH is crashing on launch.  Maintence guy came in to replace to the gargabe disposal, and to save the machines from a surge with him flipping breakers to find the right one I shut'em down.  Now whenever I run AH I get the video config box every time I try to run it, pick my settings, click ok, and after about 30seconds of nothing I get a Program Error dialog box that says aceshigh.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows, restart the application.  Tried nuking the settings folder and even installing again the 2013 full version, but I'm still crashing.  Even rebooted the machine a couple times.

Only thing I've done differently today than any day the past week was to shut the machine down.

the drwtsn32.log says this:

Application exception occurred:

AH crashes on launch
« Reply #1 on: December 06, 2004, 03:52:21 PM »
Ok, now I'm scratching my head.  Disgusted with the problem, I completely shut the computer down and walked away from it.  Came back, fired the machine up again, and now AH runs with no problems.

Now I'm wondering if I might have a hardware problem somewhere since complete shut down/power off seems to have cleared the problem, but reboots didn't.

Could have been something remaining resident in your memory that only a cold restart would clear up. Memory leak in another application maybe?

According to your task list, aceshigh.exe was running.  If Windows had already shut it down and it still shows in your active tasks, something was making the launcher hang.

AH crashes on launch

Ok, this has reared its head again.  Been about a week since I've restarted the machine, no problems at all with AH all week.  Outta the blue here it is again.  So far this morning I've rebooted/shut down/restarted 6-7 times and every time it starts up same crash on launch for AH.

Started doing it last night, couple of reboots sorted it and got into AH for a bit.  But this morning she's a no go.  Only thing that's changed in the system is I installed sp4 for win2k pro this morning (after trying to play and crashing).

I'm starting to wonder if it's about time to just wipe C: and reinstall everything

not to bring up a semi-old topic but i've been out of AH for a while now and just today decided i'd come back and see how far its come...i had uninstalled AH completely from my system many months ago, and today installed the 2016 version and nothing else..
When i went to launch it i got the video settings screen, and i left it at default jus to see if it would run, and a few seconds after i click ok it just crashes back to the desktop...

Is there a way to fix this or an idea of what it could be?

Normally it would mean you need to update your video card driver, but it all depends on what video card you have, as well as other aspects of your system (i.e. operating system, ramount of system memory...).

One thing I noticed in your task list is the RealPlayer Task scheduler.  Disable it.  It checks for updates every so often, and it eats up processor resources (and network resources) while it's running.  Might want to make sure your McAfee isnt interfering with or slowing down the packet transfers also.
