RPM's and Slip Indicator

I've been flying flight sims sinse the 80's
with Sid Meir's stuff on a Commodore 64.  But
I have limited knowlege of "real" fight stuff.  So, can anyone tell me what to do
with the RPM's.  When is it usefull to lower
it etc.  Also on the slip indicator.  Should
I be trying to keep that centered in a turn?
Or is it just for show?  Ignore it?

Mhhh, with the Throttle, you usualy have to be gentle when taking off, otherwise you will find yourself to be quickly upside down  

I usualy leave it at % mil power when climbing and flying, remember that alt AND speed are two major advantages, try to keep em both as high as you can...

Then, there is the WEP (War Emergency Power) that yo will only be able to use for a determined time (depends of AC, not sure for all of them, since I only fly the Hog or Poney...)

the Slip indicator is usefull :
a- on Take offs, it will tell you if you are turning, when you can't see that runway <g>
b-also usefull in flight if you want to do a chandelle and not turn your AC to much...keep it below 30deg banking...

I hope the "experten" will add a line to this...as I am not one

RPM's....I believe the it is implemented now...so lower RPM's result in less fuel usage....good to use once cruise alt has been obtained and you want to conserve fuel..

Keeping the ball centered is good (unless you skew it on purpose for gun aiming or slipping or defensive manuevers).  It means your airplane is not creating any excess drag (very, very simplified)

The old aviation saying applies....step on the ball.  That means if the ball is sliding to the right...use right rudder input to correct.
