ATI 9600 Pro problem
« on: January 13, 2005, 02:15:47 AM »
I just upgraded from a 9000 Pro to a 9600 Pro.  Getting much better frame rates now, but I have one problem.  The dar bar and dot dar's are showing nothing but grey scale colors.  What can I do to get this fixed?  I have the latest video drivers and direct x 9.0c

Hum, actually I think the drivers may not be the latest.  My girlfriend redid my system ya she's computer geek more than I,
and installed the drivers from the disk I believe.  Only problem now is Im not exactly sure which Radeon 9600 Pro I have.  I bought the card off my GF and when she had bought it, she bought it bare bones (non-manufacture box etc.)  The disk says its for the 9600 Pro Platinum and it says Sapphire on it.  The card says its "powered by ATI" .Im assuming it's made by Sapphire.  Anyone have a link for the drivers?  (Im assuming tis driver related..if not, is there any settings I should look for that might cure this prob?

Its drivers.  Plenty of people have had that same problem.  Newest drivers should solve the problem.

Been doing some internet searches.  Best as I can tell, The Sapphire uses ATi drivers.  Ya, I believe my Cat driver im using now isn't even above 4.0..  frame rates anywhere from 30-90.  Other than the dar bar, it works fine.  Ill have to swap out the drivers when I get home  (ya i get to play on the internet here at work :)   Thanks for the help

Yes, if you are using anything older than Catalyst 4.x, you are going to have the issues you described.

Also note, DO NOT install the "Catalyst Control Center" from ATI.  It will kill your performance.

Ya, got the Cat 4.12.  That solved the problem.  Unfortunately, the ATI download was a package deal that included the control panel.  Im getting anywhere from 30 to 98 FPS now.  Way better than I had been with the old video card.  Game is very acceptable to play now.  I cant ask for much since its just a 1.53 Ghz Athlon machine.  I dont get any "slide shows" now in ground view mode and that is what I had hoped to accomplish, so I am quite happy.  I was getting FPS lower than 10 before in ground view.  Seems I cant really tell performance issues unless it drops below around 23 FPS anyways, so Im not concerned about having a screamer machine.  Just one that would be all-around functional in every view mode, and I finally have done this.
I am also even more happy.  I found my old worn out MS Sidewinder Precision Pro laying around and decided to hook it up as a second joystick to see if AH2 would take it, and it did.  The MS Sidewinder is usless for the X and Y axis, but it makes a very neat and cheap way of having a second hat!   put that sucker in my lap and  and I can now control views with both hands.  Extra views sure improve Situational Awareness!!  Oh, and not to mention having more buttons to program!
(ya, I now call it my Ghetto HOTAS)
