(Continuation War 1941-1944)
In early 1944 the Red Banner Baltic Fleet air force changed tactics in the offensive against the mine belts across the Gulf of Finland.
Then main target became the northern supply point, the city and port of Kotka and occasionally Hamina harbour 20 kilometrers east of it. Raids to these locations also disrupted the shipping of other war material on the way the front. On 6 March 1944 the first major air raid commenced.
