Odd joystick problem
« on: February 01, 2005, 01:57:49 PM »
My MS FF2 has lost it's return to center tension.

Except it hasn't.  If I have the sidewinder control panel open on the forces tab then it's fine, no problem at all.  I can run AH and fly just fine if the control panel is open in the background.  With settings saved and the control panel minimised....or even with a different tab selected the stick has no return to center tension.

???

I'm ashamed of you people.  2 hours this post has been up and not one person is trying to help.  Not to mention, 2 hours has passed and not ONE of you has posted a "limp stick" joke.  For shame.

Ok I'll have a go.

Does it stay hard only in the mornings but then when it's time for action it goes limp?

If so, try to arrange time to play in the mornings and your relationship with your computer will stay healthy and satisfactory.

If that doesn't work for you, there are several applications that may help you, including sticking rubber bands around the stick for more tension. You might want to get the stick fully erect before you do that, though. You wouldn't want your yoke to steer left now would you?

If you're not actually married to your computer you can try changing your gaming companion to a later model which might boost up your stick wielding abilities again. True enough, updating companions is cumbersome and expensive but as a return you often get greatly improved visuals, less noise and a generally cooler operation. You might even want to show it off to your friends - hardly a treat you would allow yourself with the old workhorse.

Some people have found that using liquids and strapped tubing also helps to keep the old companion alive and interesting.

There's nothing to be ashamed of, many other people have similar problems with their sticks. Especially the short ones like PP2. ;)

Edit: I forgot to add: usually it's all in the mind (software.)

Judging from the fact that it stays hard when the control panel is open I'd say the problem is in the software not the stick itself.

Where, don't ask me.

Trouble is it's XP so the driver is inbuilt.
