Training Instructors Wanted
« on: February 07, 2000, 02:08:00 PM »
We're looking for qualified applicants to become Aces High training instructors.  Training instructors will be responsible for providing assistance to new players.  This assistance will cover everything from how to play the game to basic ACM.  Applicants should have a strong desire to help other people, be very patient, have a good temperament, and have good communication skills.  Basic technical knowledge in Windows and internet communications as it relates to AH is very helpful.  A full understanding of the game mechanics is necessary and the applicant should be a proficient pilot.  It is not necessary to be a top pilot, but you should be proficient at the game.  This training program is not intended to give advanced ACM lessons.

A position as an instructor requires at least 2 hours of arena time per week as an instructor, monitoring and responding to the help and training forum on the BBS, and the ability to be reasonably available to work with students on a one-to-one basis as requested.

A tour as an instructor lasts 3 months.  Instructors can serve multiple tours as long as they are not consecutive.  This is done to keep the training staff fresh and to give more people the opportunity to participate in this program, thereby raising player awareness of the difficulties of getting new players up to speed.

Training instructors will receive 6 months of free time for each 3 month tour that is served beginning when they start their tour as an instructor.  Free time is non-transferrable.

If you are interesting in applying for an instructor position, cut and paste the following application into an email to dougb@hitechcreations.com with the subject of "Instructor Application".  Replies will be sent out after selections are made informing you whether you've been selected or not.  Since this is the first group of instructors that AH has, it will set the precedent to follow and selection will be stringent.

Hehe, of course I am!  I sent my application in quick-smart.

Pyro, Im sure, has a ton of applicants though, and other considerations such as languages and schedules to consider.  I would enjoy it and it would be nice, but I'm sure Pyro will pick a good Training crew.  I'll support whomever he picks, whether I'm in that group or not.  Also, there will be rotating groups as he mentions, so there will be plenty of opportunities for people to be trainers.  Just a an aside, I think this rotating 3 month "tour of duty" idea for trainers is a fantastic one.  It's a great way to keep your training staff fresh and dedicated, as well as ensuring a large pool of trained folks to answer questions and help out, even when they are not officially "on duty".  Well done Pyro.

I'll answer your questions (or anyone's) here or online anytime though Bee.  Whether I'm an "official" trainer or not.  Fire away!

Indeed leph, I know this training crew will be top notch.

Pyro and all others, wtg on the 'rotating trainers' idea. Tell me who suggested it and next time he's in Belgium, I'll buy him a beer

ok on to the questions leph...
1) I can't find my F15
2) What's the afterburner button
3) I look at the hud but don't see my alt and speed, what's that all about?
4) tried to fire my sidewinders... no go?
5) I took the biggest plane in the game (b17) but everybody outturns me, how come?
6) I chased a green fellow and shot him but he didn't go down... I did, is the FM FUBAR?

Questions 1, 2 and 5 were realy asked to me by 2097   He realy seemed lost in here  ... well hope trainers will solve his case

Leph on a serious note, I've got some questions on going guns-defensive in the 190... I'll ask them when you are online.

LOL, well I can try to answer these questions as well:

ok on to the questions leph...
1) I can't find my F15
The WWII version is the P38.  Coming soon to Aces High.

2) What's the afterburner button
Letter P on the keyboard.  We call it WEP.

3) I look at the hud but don't see my alt and speed, what's that all about?
In WWII we had the HDD, Head Down Display.  Look down at all those nice dials set into the dashboard for your alt and speed.

4) tried to fire my sidewinders... no go?
These are older model rockets that don't seek, but they do work.  You must have forgotten to load them onto your plane in the Hangar screen.  If you did load them, then you need to use the backspace key to toggle to them as your secondary weapon, and use the B button to fire them.

5) I took the biggest plane in the game (b17) but everybody outturns me, how come?
You didn't climb high enough first.  At 35k, the B17 really starts to shine as a TnB fighter.

6) I chased a green fellow and shot him but he didn't go down... I did, is the FM FUBAR?
Nope, the Pilot is just confused. <G>  Green guys are your buddies!  Shoot the red guys.

I'll keep an eye out for 2097 and see if I can help out.

Hey Saint, getting shot down is a necessity to learning better ACM!  Everytime you get shot down is a learning opportunity.  When you don't get shot down as much, you have to work harder to improve.

Being a 3 year WarBirder and and a Rogue Gryffon I would like to be involved in the trainers program for AH but of course it would help if I opened an account first.
Im still working with the front end and trying to figure out what soes what!
You all have done a fine job with the game and its development. My only question is why the over kill with utilities and configurations? Im no idiot <a moron maybe>
but your system utilities are confusing lack instructive info on they're use.
Pull a trash can up to the desk get a pair of scissors and start cutting. The average moron <me> has difficulties with it making it easier will indeed promote rapid growth!
