DVD Burner
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:00:02 PM »
Hi all,
I'll be the 1st to admit I'm not very computer savy. My computer came with a DVD burner and yesterday was the 1st time I tried it. Welp it says it won't work b/c my software cannot decode DVD's? What's the purpose of a DVD burner if you can't burn DVDs? Are there programs out there that can decode DVDs or is it illegal? And if it is, can you still get one hehehe? Thanks all.

I ran into this exact problem today.  When your PC was shipped, it probably came with several CDs.  One says something like:

"Already installed on PC

PowerDVD" (or whatever program you have)

Just pop that puppy in the CD drive and install it.

Some times you have to set the Region code on the drive before you can use it.

MegaDUD, don't be dumb. Why pay full price when I can get it for the cost of 1 rental ($5) and a stack of DVD-R's($12 for 10)? Please get back to me with your insightful wisdom:rolleyes:

I might have read this wrong, but mega, I burn all my DVD's initially with DVD Shrink. It works to completion, but once saved however, always use Nero 6.

If you read the website, I believe DVD Shrink is free but needs Nero to work. Just get a copy of Nero.

For making backups DVD-Shrink and Nero Burning Rom are best combination.

Or if it is  one layer or commonly referred to as DVD5 you can use DVD Decrypter to decrypt and to burn.  Great website has tutorials and links to all the required software. You dont need Nero plenty of free programs can do the same thing

You need DVD shrink, DVD decryptor, and Nero

Also check out some forums to discover which types of DVD+R's to get. There isa lot of bad media out there that is not compatible with different setups.
