The Royce Special Mission Mindanao
April 11, 1942

The Royce special mission back to the Philippines consisted of eleven B-25s and three B-17s which took off from Darwin, Australia on April 11, 1942 for the 1,500 mile flight to Mindanao. After arriving at their forward airfields, the planes flew bombing missions with P-40E fighter escort against Japanese ships, airfields, and harbor facilities in the Philippines. One B-17 was destroyed when it was bombed while parked on the airfield, but the other two B-17s and all the B-26s  returned safely to Australia after 3 days of operations.

- Ack main standard
- Fighter and Bomber warning range 42,000 (about 8 miles)

- Clouds / visibility (17 miles)
- Radar off
- Friendly collisions off
- Kill shooter off
- South East 10 knots

Designer Notes
The reason Tower range is the same as the Fighter and Bomber warning range is to show the squads on the clipboard (visual aid) how far the warning radius is. It serves no other purpose than that since radar is off.

CM Notes

- Setup CM will place CV at port P14 with a back and forth pattern and  will not move the ship . Ship must stay like it is going to dock at port.
- Set time to 9 am with no fog

If you are unable to be a Frame C.O. then it is your responsibility to find a replacement within your squad or trade with someone in another squad. Details on how to be a Frame C.O. can be found here.

If the sides are truly going to be Allied 40% and Axis 60%, I don't see how the Allies can stand without having bomber formations.  In these type events, when massed bombers are engaged by massed fighters, frame rates go to pot, making gunning very difficult, and it usually seems that the bombers have the hardest time dealing with it.  I know the A6's are made out of paper, but I still don't see how the P-40's and F4F's will protect the bombers.  Only chance is to have the B-26's speed past the interceptors at high altitude.  Just my observations.  I guess we will have to see what 68KO is planning.  I am not always correct with my initial impressions.

BTW, sign USMC up for Axis. 11-15 pilots.  I always prefer the side with better planes and more numbers.  If sides were even, or Allies had formations, I would go with Allies cause we love the B26's.

We were Axis last frame, but don't hold that against us.

I hear you tracer. 68KO and I spent some time on the phone about this on. Kinda a gamble, but I was willing to let him try it.  Sometimes it is really tough to tell how these things will work out. :) It will be tough for the A6M's to catch the B-26's at alt. Esp with supporting fighters around. If they come from the 6 positions the will lose 2 or 3 to down a 26 IMHO.

Time will tell. :)

Great, sounds like you have properly wrestled with the issues.  It will be fun to do something out of the ordinary anyway.  I am supportive of pushing the envelope of available scenarios.  Keep up the good work.
