Hurricane/Spitfire Engines
« on: January 31, 2005, 01:43:00 PM »
Can someone tell me if the hurri IIC and the Spit's shared the same powerplant? If so, which models? Also, if someone has a link to a good online resource, I'd love to know what it is.

Thanks,

Hi Hub,

The Hurricane IIC had a Merlin XX series powerplant, and the only Spitfire I'm aware of with a Merlin XX series powerplant was the Spitfire III  which didn't make it into series production.

(In a broader sense, all Hurricanes and most Spitfires were powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.)

Thanks, I had found a nice spitty engine sound, just curious if it was 'historically accurate' for use on both planes.
