Tips for A8V owners

BIOS tweaks -
1) Disable any devices you won't be using. Eg if you use a USB printer disable onboard parallel port etc.
2) If you are going to use SATA RAID: connect to VIA RAID ports.
3) Mem timings - Use the default timings.
4) Mem interleave - 2 banks only filled: disable node interleaving
5) Mem 2T command rate - disable: forces 1T command rate (faster)
6) Vid Disable fastwrites
7) Vid Search MDA - disable
8) Vid AGP 3.0 calibration - enable
9) Hypertransport - set to 1000

Gets you a stable fast set of options, you can go on from here tweaking the actual mem timings manually. Personally I haven't bothered.

I have two 80gb sata drives in raid 0 fror boot drive plus 4 ide drives on the 133 ata bus (two removeable) and a dvd recorder plus a cd writer on the other ide bus

it doesn't bog down in AH2 or video work

Kev,

Great post!  This will really help me.

My Asus mobo system is going to strictly be for aces high.

I plan on keeping it stripped to the essentials to run it, using my old system for all the other home pc stuff.

this will be a clean install to a 40gig udma harddrive.  Is there a way to install xp and keep all the over head disabled?

PS.  I wonder how subscribers are in Georgia this would be a great place to have the con.  It could be structured around the peachtree airshow, just a thought.

Lists all the XP/2000 services and which you can disable to lower overhead.

First time I have ever heard of anyone suggesting fastwrites enabled for newer cards. ATI themselves recommend disabling fastwrites.

Its listed as ok to use fastwrites for AMD 64 cpu's only, all others recommend turning it off.
