We’re very close to releasing Version 2.02 providing we don’t run into any major problems during testing.

We would like to give a big thanks to Airmess for his help with the P-38 skins.  He provided us with the P-38L skin as well as templates for the other 38s.  We kept this experiment limited to see if it was even going to be feasible, but now that it has proven to be so, we’re going to look at putting together a volunteer group of experienced skinners that would get access to planes before they’re released.  This will save us time in the process of renovating old plane shapes and planes could have multiple skins ready to go when it comes time to release them.

2.02 has a lot of new visual effects added but we didn’t get to everything.  There are still old effects that need to be updated.  The structure for doing this been made, so it’s not a huge deal to do it but it does take time and we never have enough of that.  There has been some worries that the additional effects will weigh too heavily on systems that are just getting by, but for the most part, these effects can be disabled if you need to.

We’ve had a long-standing issue with voice cutting out on some people.  We’ve never been able to duplicate and find the cause of the problem.  Some new dot commands we’re added in 2.02 that will help HT find the source of the problem as well as provide some temporary relief for those who get that problem.  There are 3 modules that could be causing the problem.  There will be a dot command that will reset each particular module.  We’re going to be looking for feedback as to which module is causing the failure.  Once that is known, it will considerably cut the size of the haystack that HT has to search through.  There will also be another dot command that will reset the entire voice system and that can be used as a stopgap solution until the problem is found and fixed.

That’s it for now.  We’ll go over the other changes when we get there.

I completely forgot about one of the main things that I wanted to post about.  We've changed 2.02 so that the base installation only ships with 512 textures.  If you run with 1024 max texture size, you will need to download an optional hi-res texture pack.  The purpose for the change is to cut down the base download size.  We found that most players are using a max texture size of 512 or less.  Cutting the base download to 512 saves us some size now, but more importantly it throttles back how quickly that size continues to grow everytime we revamp or add new planes.  Skins will be unaffected by this change and will continue to ship in a 1024 format.
