I was reading a journal entry on wwIIonline and realized something that AH lacks.

Would it be possible to have bigger hit effects for cannon hits vs plain machine gun hits? Thus, we would get an idea of what damage we are doing to the enemy plane.. as well as improving the hit graphics somewhat?

Good idea. The current hit sprites look like explosive cannon hits I guess. Need another type for smaller-sized and/or AP rounds.

Pulled out my WW2 guncamera video and looked for the hit sprite effects on real airplanes.  From the .50's on P-51's hitting the all metal German airplanes, the hit sprites we pretty closely match the ones in the video.  .50's on the Japanese airplanes show fewer sprite but usually result in immediate fuel streams or fire.  The cannon round explosive effects, however, look much bigger on the video than the sprites we see.  The are usually accompanied but a large puff of smoke and parts flying from the airplane.  Just devastating, especially up close.

(for those interested, Vol 2 of the Challenge of Flight series from US fighter Squadrons, Inc "Whispers Of Death")

Heheh just goes to show ya what a great job HT and Pyro have done so far, but I think they have alot on their collective plate at the moment and doubt that this will see high priority for the moment.  I think the addition of new planes and vehicles will take some time to develope and then much later they may work on these "finishing touches"

Out at 1000 yds or so I'd say our hit sprites are too big.
