I just saw Friday Night Lights. I enjoyed it. IMHO, it just might be the best football movie ever made. I may have to re-watch a few and decide for sure...

Anyway... the list is (in no particular order):

North Dallas Forty
All the Right Moves
Remember the Titans
The Program
The Replacements
Any Given Sunday
The Longest Yard
Rudy
Brian's Song
Paper Lion
Varsity Blues
The Best of Times

Go ahead... rack and stack. :)

Anyone that was ever injured, especially in the knee, can relate to Booby. Not so much as 'my life is over, I only know football..."  similar

I also enjoyed "Necesary Roughness".

I don't think I have a top 10 of sports films, though.  They're all pretty brutal when it comes to the sports aspect of things.  The only thing that makes/breaks them is how they handle everything else.

You forgot an oldie but goodie, Knute Rockne All American.

FNL was very good. Maybe the best ever.

My Dad's brother was a high school football coach (large school division) here in So. Cal, then he moved to Texas (Plano). He was shocked at the intensity of high schoool ball in Texas. He always claimed however, that there was much more talent in Southern California.

Odessa Permian was a Texas powerhouse for many, many years. It looks like Southlake Carroll has taken the throne.Their coach, Todd Dodge (ex-UT QB) just won National HS Coach of the Year. I'd look for him to replace Mack Brown when he finally gets canned.

Necessary Roughness was filmed about 30 miles from me at North Texas State (now UNT). Wish I had known, I would have killed to see Kathy Ireland.
