American Idol. Who wouldnt make it?
« on: February 03, 2005, 09:17:34 AM »
Wife watches  AI. I only watch the beginning when they have all the loosers on there inflicting great pain on Simon and co's eardrums.

Got me to thinking. How many of the great superstars WOULDNT have made it in the American Idol competition?

My two top votes would have to be Bob Dylan and Neil Young

No way would either have made it past the first round.

Dylan wrote/writes great songs but he sounds like a bad Dracula imitator with a head cold.

Same thing with Young. Great songs but I havent been able to figure out if he is singing or whining the lyrics
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

Most rock and roll singers wouldn't have made it.  You can't really sing RnR without a band.

first of all in this world your face and body have to be like this:

http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fib.html

1·6180 the golden number.

Its just plain matematic calculated, if you sing good but dont have the face forget it.

or if youre a genious like bob Dylan you might have a possiblillity to make it. (read 1965-1990) Today we only get silicon faced or otherwise fixed people running up on the billboard.

Britanny Spears, Rod Stewart, Cher, and a whole host of others.  I agree, a lot of famous singers wouldnt make it.  Probably not Paula Abdul either.

Actually, I think Jessica Simpson is a pretty good singer.  Much better when she isn't having to duet with her husband, he struggles just to reach the level of mediocre with his singing.

For a long time I was amazed at how much talent there really is out there, and how hard it is to become a professional entertainer (or athlete) for that matter.

Of course, watching AI (I freely admit it, and not blaming my wife  :D ) now makes me think there is NO TALENT out there....  It's just that they show the true losers, and the good ones are hidden.

Go to Disney, or any entertainment venue and pay attention to the incredibly talented people whose names you will never know...It's amazing.  All that talent, and they work for min wage.

Think about professional athletes...  There are probably no more than 5000 making a real living in a workforce of 100,000,000....  Which is why it is so sad to see so many kids thinking that B-Ball is there path to a better life rather than school....but I digress.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)

Well, anybody that made it in to get verbally abused by Simon already made it past the screening producers. Some aren't quite good enough, and alot are filler for those first few shows.

I think it's kinda sad that they'd build these people up by sending them in front of Simon, fully knowing that person is horrible. I think it's even more sad that I & my roommate only watch those first few episodes just to see people's dreams shattered.

oh, and 99% of the rappers would never make it on AI :)

Thing is... I think you have to limit this to pop stars. Dylan and Young aren't pop. They're poets that happen to play instruments and sing poorly.

Probably true... but in the words of Randy Jackson, "Dana Owens can blow."
