Amphibious(sp?) AA gun
« on: January 28, 2005, 12:15:31 AM »
The LVTA2 and 4 have hardly any way to defend themselves with their tin-plated armor and the PT boats can be sunk by a Spit I.

Was there ever an amphibious anti-air armed tank? If so, can we have it? Pretty please?

Now then, off to bed. Poof!

Well, the PT's were made of plywood, so the sinking isn't a big deal :) (Given the HUGE ammount of defensive guns on the pt)

As far as I know, no AA lvta's were made, but that's just me.

You would be surprised how much damage those Pt's sustained and kept going in real life.  They do seem prone to blowing up here instead of taking damage and maybe sinking slowly..>

Maybe we should have the PT to sink like other ships instead of blowing up?

Well they also ran on Av Gas, so they had the potential to go BOOM rather easily.

However it shouldn't happen that way every time. Would love to see bow/stern shot off, slow sink, etc.

One thing would be nice would be to add either an LST or an
LSM to the fleets.  Even the smaller LSM could carry 3 "heavy"
tanks and is alot faster than those poor LVTs :)

Now THAT would rock. Load it up with flaks and sail away ;)

I'm having trouble finding the picture, but they used to load
up some LSTs with twin/quad 40mm bofors mounts and use them
for fire support at the beach.

The picture I am thinking of is one with the mounds of empties
reaching the guntubs from the BEACH!  Wonder how long it took
to fire that many rounds ;)
