Trim
« on: November 28, 2001, 04:24:00 AM »
Hey everyone,

I have a question concerning trim.  I am pretty new to the game and have never really used manual trim except to pull up out of a dive after I had compressed.  I have been seeing in the P38 post that some of the vets rarely or never use combat trim preferring instead to manually trim their rides.  The question I have is in reference to how to manually trim the plane.  In other words is it good to hit x then do a fine adjustment or some other way.  Also as I don't have a stick with tons of buttons can I get away with just mapping elevator trim and calling it a day for the dogfights?  Any advice is appreciated   :)

For the P38, it is sufficient to have elevator trim easy at hand. The contrarotating probs neutralize most to all torque to the left or right.

On other planes it is very good to have all trims on the stick or i good range on the keyboard.

I think you can fly the P38 pretty much only with elevator trim. You ca still use the multiple autotrims to maintain climb, speed or level. Once you enter a fight, you should correct the nose up/down tendencies from speed changes with the elevator trim. Should work pretty good.
I personally btw find a somewhat noseheavy plane easier to fly than a tail hvy one. This maybe cause i can control the backmovement of the stick better than the forward movement. So i often have the plane trimmed for high speeds, so that in fight i generally get a bit nosehvy, but that i ca than correct easily wiht the stick.
