i cant seem to get it to work... is it just me?

on a side note - trackir 3 pro was ok with AH2.. but adding the vector expansion made things 'great.' now that im getting more used to it it really makes an astounding difference. thanks htc for implenting the technology :)

No; I can't either. Track IR doesn't work in external views for me; nor are Track IR views recorded in films

It works in other sims but apparently not here in AH.

i was hoping to just be able to pan around the aircraft with the normal numpad or arrow keys and have trackir disabled outside

You can; the TR software has a "pause" button.

You can pan around, just be sure you dont have a trackir F-key maped to F8 or it will (by default) capture that keystroke and AH will not recieve that command.

Currently external views do not pan with TIR....but you can look at the angle you want BEFORE hitting F3 and you start with that view.
