RADEON 9200 video card question.

Kanawa, those are the problem drivers.  Grab the Catalyst 4.12 drivers from ATI's site and try them.

Falcon, I think you need to go to later drivers, but I am not sure where the problems got introduced.  You might try the 4.12 drivers and see if they work better.

The 92xx series cards are only DX 8.1 cards based on the 8500 series, and 9000 series cards.  They dont support DX 9.0 and I'm not sure the newest Cat's will support that card either.  The 4.12 is the best option I think.

Ummm......  The newest driver on the ATI website is the Catalyst 5.2.  The Catalyst 5.1 drivers had several problems and didnt really do much for older, or value cards like the 92xx series.  I doubt they spent any more time developing drivers to better implement old technology when they are still getting the bugs ironed out of the support for the newer cards.  Anything after the 4.12 Catalyst drivers isnt going to give you any performance increases or "bug fixes" if you have any of the older cards.

I didnt say you couldnt install DX 9.0 with these cards.  You can.  The card just wont support DX 9.0 shader implementations.  The best it can do is 8.1 levels.  If you doubt that, look it up on the internet.  There are several places you can get unbiased reviews of the card and a history.  If you want to check up on my info on the drivers, I suggest starting at

http://www.driverheaven.net

There are several other sites that deal with drivers as well, including

http://www.omegadrivers.net

and most especially go to

http://www.ati.com

Read the BB forums at any site and search for your video card, or for the specific drivers you have a question on.

Good luck!

Yes.  Uninstall the old drivers first, then install the new drivers.  This ensures a clean install of the new drivers.  Also (from personal experience) double check your Direct X install after you change video card drivers.  Sometimes the DX install can become corrupted.

Good luck!

You said the 4.4 drivers worked fine, but you had problems with the shorelines and transitions?  I'd go back to that driver, then start adjusting your video options.  Also, check to see what "view mode" AH is in.  Flying a plane while you are in groud vis mode can cause such flickering.

It would be nice if Hitech would archive the "magic" drivers that work with its game.  None of the links in this thread work anymore and the ATI website no longer gives access to archived drivers.  I have the Radeon 9250 and connot find the driver I need anywhere.

Its not magic drivers.  There happen to be bugs in the new Catalyst drivers for the 9000 series video cards.  You have to remember, the 9000 series cards are built on technology approaching 6 years ago (the 92xx cards use the old 8500 video chip).  That's a millenimum in video card terms.

And it is a shame ATI stopped allowing direct links to the drivers.

The Catalyst 4.12 drivers are the ones to use with the 9000 series cards.  All the new cards from ATI work fine with the new drivers.

You have to expand links in the left column of the ATI driver download page to get to the previous versions of the Catalyst drivers.

Thank you for such a quick response.  What I needed was right there all along.  I just didn't see it.  The game works flawlessly with the driver you reccomended.
