Hi Bug

Thanks for the compliments. I use a Canon 10D body and that shot was taken with a Canon 100-400L lens at about 350.

Angus, yes Charlie Brown is one of the pilots that flies this Spit, though you can tell by the helmet that he was not flying it on this occasion. I'm not absolutely sure who was flying it this time.

The shot below was taken at the same show. I don't want to bore everyone with these photos, but this is perhaps another aircraft for AH

Hey again Fox.
Never gonna get bored with those.
BTW, there was some AW dude from the krait squadron at Duxford when I was there the last time. Small world.

Can I use the email address you have from AH, or can you give me a hint of a place where I can host pictures?

Cos I also have some to share :)

Not that good though.
35mm film, printed and scanned on a flatbed scanner. Since I have the films, it could be done better I guess.
It was a Minolta XG-1 with a 80-200 zoom. 100-200 ASA Fuji and no tripod. I had a press pass, so I got some good shots from angles that are not available to everyone.

So, if there is hosting space anywhere, or if you want to get some pics by email, just let me know.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Hi again Angus

Yes the Kraits were big in AH (remember SAC - which came from a couple of guys in the Kraits, the skins for which were done mainly by Fidd).

There a still a few Kraits flying in AH from time to time, but not that many, though Flossy continues to fly the flag along with her other duties !!

All the pictures shown on here are hosted on the AH Picture Hanger which can be found at :- http://www.onpoi.net/ah/?=SID

It is a brilliant facility, very easy to use and full of great images across all sectors.

Next time you visit an airshow let me know; we can maybe meet up and exchange notes.

As you seem to like these, here's a Spit 1 doing what it does best

That's one fruity P-51!

...Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nothing wrong with that camera Bug, I had a similar camera for years before I got into the bigger stuff, it was great for learning about composition and framing.

Haven't seen that P51 before - did you take the photo in the Netherlands ?

Hi Fox,

>Thanks for the compliments. I use a Canon 10D body and that shot was taken with a Canon 100-400L lens at about 350.

Very nice! I enjoy the grain-free, crisp sharpness of your shots - chemical film won't give me that :-)

What would the the equivalent focal length for a 35 mm camera be for the same effect as your 100 - 400 mm? I guess something like 600 mm (which is the focal length of my favourite lens)?

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

Hi Henning

You have to take a multiplier of 1.6 when considering the 10D, so I guess 600mm is about right for that shot.

I like the crisp shots, but I also like some soft focus or atmospheric shots, it all depends on the subject. This one I took at a sunset display at Shuttleworth UK last year, I call it 'Last One Home'

yes last year at lelystad i can't wait for this year airshows to make more.

its quite frustrating not being able to zoom on a flying object.

but someday and ill take the time  ill get a good camera.

Something like a D70 when they get cheaper.

again i like the cripy shots :)

Very very nice shots :)

These days I'm more into concert photography and a bit of tentative modelling work... but I started out with a decent SLR (Minolta 404Si) when I was still travelling all over Europe. Saw a lot of aviation museums then and a few airshows too. Hmmm, maybe it's time to browse through my old negatives this afternoon. Got a lot of good ones from Duxford, Hendon and the FAA museum in Yeovilton.

Last year I went to the new aviodrome musuem in Lelystad, The Netherlands and took a few pics with my Nikon D-70:

http://ronald.krezipmedia.org/2004/aviodrome/index.htm

And Bug, don't think about a Nikon D-70, just buy one! You will be amazed what you can do with its virtually no existent lag and high framerate. Also the high ISO performance is fantastic and if you learn how to work with .raw instead of .jpg you'll never go back. The Canon 20D is even more awesome but a bit more expensive. Dunno if you have any film based gear, but these days, Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax and Olympus all allow you to upgrade from their film based gear to digital.

I also have a film scanner but it is soo much more work to wring something decent from a negative... although I like to shoot old fashioned B/W once in a while. But I degress.

Regards,

Ronald

Nice portfolio Hogenbor :)  Lots of variety and good use of colour. I keep thinking about doing more portrait work and I guess that will be part of the projects scheduled for this year. - I just have to find a few willing models !! :aok

BUG and Moose. There's loads of free expert advice available on a number of Forums, but the best one for me has been

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/

There is so much advice available here on virtually every piece of kit ever made, photography techniques, processing techniques, you name it. Virtually everything I know about photography has been picked up on this BBS.

In terms of Camera kit, I bought my first Canon EOS camera about 30 years ago (EOS 600). I still have it, though rarely use it, preferring to take advantage of digital these days with the 10D. The benefit for me has always been the lenses, which fit every Canon EOS camera. Over the years I have bought and sold stuff and gradually upgraded my lenses to those I have now. Of course you never have enough in terms of quality, and I would like to have only L Lenses - but that will take time.

It needn't be too expensive either. Take a look at the 'Buy and Sell' forum on Fredmiranda. Virtually all my stuff has been bought and sold there. It is a well managed forum, the stuff offered is usually very high quality and you need never have any fear about buying through it.

thanks fox, 10d might be in my price range in a couple of months and the shots you've taken are more then i would ever ask for :)

primarily im shooting at hockey games where the lighting isn't that great and i haven't found a way to get anything right with the cameras i have. (an olympus c700 and c60) in the right light though the c60 doesnt do so bad...
