Tsunami warning

I'm reading that Bill Bryson book, "A Short History of Nearly Everything", which is pretty good I guess. I like being refreshed on that sort of stuff, and finding out the latest about what we know. But it's really starting to get annoying that every chaper ends with a disaster scenario about what might go wrong. So, if Yellowstone explodes the world might be plunged into years of total darkness. If an asteroid hits we're all toast. If the ocean currents shift... if, if, if. Well, if not, then my boss expects me at work on Monday, so I better figure on having clean underwear.

I'd build my new house on stooges, that's for sure.

I understand this is a very difficult dilemma, just wanted to know if people

a) Know
b) Care
c) React on it.
