I can only start the engine
« on: June 09, 2001, 07:27:00 PM »
Now I don't want anyone to laugh 'cause I'm a newbie ok? I tried to operate a tank and the only thing I figured out is how to start the engine. could someone tell me how to actually get it to move? And also how to aim that big tank gun. btw, when I downloaded the game it didn't come with any ships. does anyone know why?

Read the keyboard setups you'll see all the commands...

E = Engine Start
Q = Shift Up
W = Shift Down

1 = Driver
2 = Main Gun
3 = Machine Gun
4 = Forward MG (pintle?)

Once you've started the tank and placed it in gear, pust the stick forward.

Once you get it in gear try rolling your mouse foward.  I haven't tried this but in theory it should work.  The mouse will work for flying planes ( although don't plan on getting many kills) so it should do the same for the tank.  Roll forward to start moving forward, back for the brakes and left and right to turn.
The joystick is almost a mandatory thing for AH.  Without is like trying to swim in shark infested waters with lead wieghts on your legs.

Hey Bomb...

As others have said- you REALLY need a joystick for this game! To try to do it without is SURE to raise your frustration level waaaay up there! Get a good Joystick, one that is oriented to Flight Sims- CH Products has some very good, but pricey ones- there are others out there.

As an aside- I flew AW for probably 3 years with a mouse- there were NO Mac joysticks (at least that worked) back then. Those were way simpler days though!

Don't get discouraged- this game requires time and patience and thought!
