a really dumb question

I have an LCD monitor now. I also have small children. What can I use to clean the screen of fingerprints and sticky jam etc.

heh I really am serious.   I do not know if glass cleaners will harm the screen. funny thing is I run a cleaniing company.  Can anyone say yea or nay to the glass cleaner question?/

From what I know, glass cleaner can turn the screen yellow in color (more so if there is a glass in front of the LCD). I did alot of asking around and white vinegar is supposed to be the best, moisten the cloth and wipe dry to reduce streaks.

Make sure you use a soft cloth and not paper towel because many papers are recycled and may contain abrasives if they aren't abrasive enough.

I know a guy that DESTROYED his new 19" monitor using amonia based Windex.

As a result I trust NOTHING!  I spend about 15 minutes cleaning my 17" NEC with just my breath and a soft cloth...one that came with a pair of expensive polarised sunglasses.

Takes a while and I'm dizzy as heck when finnished but I trust NOTHING.

Let me know if the white vinegar works tho.

We used to use a product (I forget the name) to clean the plexiglass windscreens on our airplanes because of the same concerns with windex, etc and how those products would cloud the windscreen. Perhaps some of the other private pilots out there could remember the name of this product.

I've always used regular soap. Very light mixture, rub the dirty spots, wipe over, clean with a cloth dipped in pure water and dry.

Haven't had any problems so far.

That's what I always use on my LCD.

Just a damp, soft cloth. Like the kind you polish furniture with.

LCD's been out for a while, might want to check with the people that built it.  You remember all that usless paperwork and stuff like instructions that were packed inside of the box that the LCD came in,  usually the "care for" instructions are there.    Course you would have to take the time to read them.

vinigar and water mix will work well and it will not harm any tv lcd or flat panel screens......

and if you running a cleaning company ...as i em you ought to know about vinigar and water for everyday cleaning stuff:D

I was thinking some MEK (methl-ethl keytone) or Tric (trifloral-chloral ethayne....gawd my HAZMAT spelling sucks) should do the trick.

JK though

Seriously As a guy that works on F16 Canopys we constatly yell at crew chiefs for cleaning them in a circular pattern because it will creat swirls no matter how soft a cloth.

Use strait soft strokes.
