Ping no ping
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:33:08 PM »
Ok ... I'm missing something ... probably real basic but my minds mush at the moment.

I can ping the arena usuing netstat ... no lost packets .. good connection 40-40 range (dsl)

I load the game ... ping the arena through the "clipboard" in AH ... no packets received. all lost ... ???

What's different?

I used FSAutostart program ... shut everything down ... no firewall ... no AV ... zero zip nada .. clean machine.

I just updated my firmware on the linksys router ...

in game ... gameplay is fine ... But no vox send or receive ...(been working on that problem for a week now ... that's why my brains mush)

30 seconds after I enter the arena ... it switches to TCP ...

going NUTS .... need to walk away for a while maybe.

If you are getting the clipboard to show you the arenas, you have to have a connection.  Otherwise it would time out trying to connect every time you hit the "online" button.  You dont have one of those motherboards with the built in firewall do you?

no built in firewall ... teh FSAutostart program closes everything ...except for basic window operations.

I can get in the game and fly around (and die) just fine.  :-)

Been fighting to get vox sound ... (at least the listen part) ... to work. Vox works great offline ... but it'sno help there ...lol

The ping thing puzzles me ...

So are you shutting down a firewall or uninstalling one ?

For the last 2 months I have seen this same thing on dial-up from Guam.  None of the arenas show a ping time.  I can connect but it instantly loses UDP and VOX.  It just appears to be a REALLY crappy connect.  Fortunately, I only play from Guam one day a month on a Saturday squad night.  If I connect on a weekday when the internet is less busy I get my normal crappy ping of 310 ms to all arenas.  I fnally found that I can use another dialup number to connect thru my ISP's V92 modem and I connect normally at 310 ms with no vox problems and only a rare warp even on the weekend.

AckEater,
Not sure how this may help you, but it sure looks to me like a connect problem.  I am sure glad I usually connect via cable from Hawaii.

PS- Yup, FSAutoStart is a GREAT app.
