"Free stuff" website...?
« on: March 07, 2005, 01:11:36 PM »
Does anybody know of this GetGiftsForFree website?

Just wondering if anyone has tried this and can confirm if it "works". Sure looks too good to be true, but I want to believe;)

The first thing that you must believe that anything you get offered for free from the internet is most likely everything but free.

You might give out your address for spam or mail adverts, even worse your creditcard information. Or you install a virus from the 'free' program.

Think of them like flytraps. They smell sweet, look icky and they get you the instant you land on them.

if it's like the "free ipod" stuff, talk abtou SPAM emails.

i used a made up yahoo account to try for that once, and that email gets 50+ a day into the inbox, that i can't even mark as spam LOL

good thing i made up an account for that, so i just closed it. waste of time.

worst part is they all ask for your full street address and stuff. i dont like giving that out, and decided it wasnt worth the risk
I don't know what to put here yet.

i didnt log in ... but let me guess.

You will sign in. Then you will discover that they will send you an email every day and more emails you get, bigger chance to WIN freestuff you have.

Hell yeah .. greate idea. ... they will SPAM you with your agreement.

And whats even more better, every day there will be one email annoncing who won  what.

its a sort of pyramid scheme

you have to sign up for 1 or 2 offers and then get 5 friends or so to all do the same.. its usually like something like a blockbuster membership or something (go figure a reputible company backing spam) .. but once they get 6 or 7 people all signing up it ends up being a little more then the cost of whatever they're *giving* away, so they make a couple bucks. just get thousands of people to fall for it, and you're all set.. or the poor schmucks who dont have enough friends who will participate and get hosed for the offers alone

I did log in but haven't received any emails other than the one confirming my account.

We called this "chain letter" when we were kids at school, dunno if that translates into english. Same thing only more elaborate. You buy this crappy thing for 40$ to get placed on a waiting list. When enough people has registered and paid after you did, u get your "free gift".

I understand that you're sceptic, I am too.

They use a external and serious service for payments (stormpay), and they don't spam at all. Like I said, I want to believe;)
