Anyone able to do a Hammerhead in 103?
« on: June 22, 2000, 01:46:00 AM »
I keep getting into a flat spin and lose heaps of alt before I recover.

I used to do it in previous versions, although very sloppy and slow.

Here's my method:

1. Nose straight up
2. Throttle back at about 150mph
3. Let her drop and apply some rudder
4. Throttle up a bit as her nose drops to bring her around quicker.

How do you guys do it and does it work in 103?

Ex.

The P-38 seemed ok. What aircraft are you trying this in?

Here's my method to hammer an A5 in 3 seconds:

1. Nose straight up
2. Max Throttle (WEP) until you almost stop climbing (compensate the roll tendency with right aileron) and a bit of rudder to keep vertical.
3. Cut WEP and ease throttle a bit. Right full aileron roll while full left rudder.
4. Once getting horizontal, full right rudder and full push to joy with a gentle aileron roll.

It takes about 3 seconds to reverse an A5 in vertical plane with this method.

IMO, the method you describe is for an attempt of "Tail slide".

Kats, I do not recommend you the tail slide move. Usually, you'll end up with your tail closer to the enemy guns. With tail slide you give the con more time to close to you and to aim and spray to your tail. With hammer you are goin to reverse quickly and to put your guns on enemy instead your tail.
Most of the times, tail slide will end up with a short flat spin, giving the con even more chances to disintegrate your plane.

Extreme, never tried hammer with P51, but with G10 the method is the same than 190 (a bit slower). I suppose that same moves will end up with hammer in P51, but, perhaps, taking more time to complete than with 190.

I've noticed that Zeke has a impresive rudder authority, so, IMO, this plane is a good candidate to perform this maneuvre very quickly.

The Nose straight up is your problem...  Cheat you nose over/hammer head by instead of being 90 degrees right angle to the ground.. Be more like 110 deg-120 deg inverted before attempting the manuever. this will ease you over alot easier.

Exp i do tail slides at 40-60 mph in P38 by cheating and going a little inverted. Which is pretty good in my opinion..

Hope this helps....
