The book:
The Battle to save the Houston, October 1944 to march of 1945

It is about the light cruiser Houston getting torpedoed twice, and being towed with a broken back over 1000 miles to Ulithi, and then 900 more to another naval base to be patched up to sail back to the US under her own power, with a hull still so damaged rough weather would have sent her down.

Great read, I could not put it down.  The damage to the ship was unbelievable!!

From what they say in the book it also helped the US navy move from a policy of Sink a cripple and save the crew to, try and save the crew and cripple.

Great book and it was 4.95 at half price books.
