I am playing enough to justify rudder pedals.

I see CH products makes them.  I have a few questions for those that might know.


1. Are thier other brands besides CH products?

2. Can they be set up to be used for GVs

3. I assume you then can control all the trim with them; or am I mistaken and the only control the rudder.

4. Are there different kinds other than USB... I know years ago when I bought a steering wheel ofr a plays station there was analog and digital.... Basically what kind is best.


5.While I am not afraid of spending money there is a limit.

6. Will they help? knowing me nope

1.  Used to be.  Thrustmaster made them, and I am not sure but I think even Saitek made a set.  I havent seen any Thrustmaster pedals in years, and I've never seen any others besides the CH.  There might be some, but I dont know where to get them.  

2.  Yes.  When in the gunner's positions, you use the rudder pedals to steer the GV, joystick to rotate your POV/direction of fire.  Gives you much better visuals in a tank if you jump to the MG and steer with the pedals vs looking out that narrow window in the drivers seat.

3.  The CH Pro Pedals control the rudder and brakes (toe brake).  Thats all.  Much improvement though for rudder control.  Well worth having vs. a "twisty stick".
 Toe brake function only works now in USB pedals.  Its there in the analog ones, but you had to have a special gamecard to make it work, and the cards were all ISA.  They never made a PCI version of those gamecards.  

4.  Analog devices are now known as "legacy" devices.  They dont make them anymore.  You can still find some on Ebay and at Amazon, sometimes in used gaming stores.  Modern PCs though dont come with a gameport anymore, so you'd have to either buy a soundcard with a gameport or buy an adapter that "translates"  and allows your legacy device to be hooked up to a USB port.  I use an analog CH setup, have had it for years.  It's a great setup and durable as hell.  With my last upgrade I had to buy a soundcard with a gameport to keep my stuff, but it was cheaper than upgrading.  Of course, due to lack of options that have died off over the years, USB offers more functionality and easier setup than the analog controllers.  
 One other thing to note, if  you buy USB you can use the Pro Pedals with any stick you want.  If you buy an analog set you MUST plug in an analog joystick to the pedals or Windows will not recognize them.  Windows recognizes the joystick w/pedals, not just the pedals.  

5.  For just over 200 bucks you can buy a basic CH stick and Pro Pedals in USB.  Another hundred will get you the Pro Throttle with more buttons and better throttle control.  If you like multi-engines they have throttle versions for 2 and 4 engine planes.  They also offer a yoke instead of a stick if you dont fly fighters and want more realism.

6.  IMO CH has some of the best customer service of any computer hardware company I've ever dealt with (I'm lumping them loosely with hardware and not gaming companies, because I've NEVER had good experience with gaming CS).  CH makes good products and supports them well.  My only gripe is that I almost never see any of their stuff on a shelf anymore, its almost all sold over the internet or mail order.

there is some german company that makes the *Best* rudder pedals, and the most realistic spacing / feel....

they are like $350 US before shipping from germany. i tried them at the con and WOW!!! but just dont have the scratch.


i use CH pro pedals, got em from funkedup for $70

they retail for i think $120 but get the PRO. the regular are just like gas pedals, where the pro move like the real thing basically AND have the "gas pedal" part (the toe brake)

it takes quite a while to get used to them, but it is SO worth it.

There is a place on the net called thestickworks or stickworks!  Do a look up.  I lost the url some time back but still have the progs so never looked it up again.

You can find a utility that allows the analog peds to be hooked up stand alone.  You can use rudder-only or r-only.exe.

It requires the Joyclick.exe to calibrate em.

CHProducts IMHO DOES have the very best customer service!!!

I'm using a CHPro Throttle USB, with CH Analog F16 Fighterstick and peds.  CH says on their site that they don't mix but they work great with AH!  I intend to purchase all USB over time.  Budget :(

Ok then is Analog the way to go or should I buy USB stuff?

As an aside the only thing I really know about computers is where the on button is.

seriously, the thing with gameport is win XP dose not "officially" support it. you can't use all the functions, and stuff.

usb will last forever therotically.

i have logitech pedals that came with the wheel, but i have problems setting it up to work on AH. they are USB

Leave the complete wheel and pedals plugged in and setup in WinXP.  Then just map the pedal axis to the rudder in AH2 by going in to the Control>Stick Select menu.  Click on Rudder in the left box and then choose your Logitech wheel name, then choose the y axis (usually y) and hit set input.  Just push on the pedals and watch the input numbers in the right hand box to make sure that it's working.   Nothing to it...

IM a MSFF2 convert to all USB CH gear.  I LOOOOVE it.

Rudder pedals make flying the damn plane 1000% better.

Not sure you can still get analog.

Go USB!  It is better!  Also the CH programming software will allow you to make all 3 units appear as 1 unit I've heard.

be ready for a SHARP learning curve to get used to those pedals....

hope you got the PRO pedals.



also, the programming software is not the easiest to lear, but once yuo got it down you will love it.

stick with the basic commands first, not the MACRO's and advanced stuff. just do the modes, and basic button presses, until you are used to the stick.

good luck, with the weather being so bad still here you should have plenty of time to play with them
