I consider any place I can't see porn hostile. I'd never work there.
The smoke free part is just fine with me. I hate smokers, never smoked in my life and never will. It's a disgusting habbit.
Look, let me walk you through this one more time. This time I'll type slower so you can more easily follow along...
Let's assume you work in an office with men and women. (I'm assuming men and women work together in Europe, just like here, but I'm not positive)
Let's assume one of the people in your office leaves adult oriented pictures on his computer and the women (or other men- it might surprise you to know that viewing porn doesn't make you manly) are uncomfortable because they can't help but view it.
Now, here's the tough part where you and the vast majority of other Euros don't grasp the point-
Do you feel it is appropiate behavior (actually his "rights," according to you) for this person to display these images to his unwilling to look co-workers, or do you feel his co-workers should have the right to not be confronted with such images in the workplace?
What baffles me here is that you, Staga, Ramzey and most other of you Euros feel the "right" of this person to display adult orientated materals is paramount over the desire of someone else to not view them.
Unfuggincredible, Siaf, that you Euros feel the way you do- you're right, we do think differently over here. We try to be curtious to each other, considerate of the rights of others, and remain polite.
You just do whatever you damn well please and to hell with anyone you offend - that's their problem. Here's the statement you made that sums up the European attitude-
"I can naturally talk to my co-workers any way I please. Why couldn't I?"
Whereas my attitude is "I have an obligation to my coworkers to help provide a non hostile, safe working enviroment because we have the RIGHT to a non-hostile, safe working enviroment."
That may seem like a small difference between us, but it's the foundation of rights and you don't get it. That, and throw in your bashing of American soldiers in Iraq (you inferred they were contract killers) the bashing of our Government and, hell, even the bashing of American labor Unions as opposed to Brit labor unions and one may conclude you are an Amerihater- which is just fine, because quite frankly after reading your posts, and the constant stream of criticism you and the other Euros spoon feed me daily, I'm turning into a Eurohater.
So I guess it's all good.
