USMC was assigned to attack A35 with B26's. We had great fighter coverage with the AK's and the 412th. We took a long approach which brought us to A35 at about the 50 min mark. We had zero contacts with the enemy. The fighters had screened ahead, and did a great job of clearing the way. We saw and shot down a few 109's and 190's over A35 as we dropped the hangers there, and then headed to A50 to clean up there. I didn't think we would make it to A50 because I had heard the resistance was stiff there. We only saw 2 small groups of 190's and 109's. so we were able to down the remaining three hangers and head for home. We had lost our fighter cover over A35 for fuel, so until we hooked up with the 56th fighter group over the channel, we were completely naked. The 56th took us the rest of the way home, and we all agreed that it was a great event. Luffwaffe seemed a little light however, but results show differently. Hmm, not sure? Lots of dammaged planes landing maybe and unable to reup?
