P-38 475th FG 432nd FS "Impossible Ince"
« on: March 15, 2005, 12:49:48 PM »
Submitted to HTC and available on ah-skins.com.  The screenshot is a little dated but close - I added more chipping, weathering and fading, oversprayed repairs, etc.   Really went all out to make a plane look like its seen hard use and repairs under less than optimal conditions.    Hope you guys like it.

Guess what!   There's something wrong in that picture - can you guys tell what it is?   I bet Guppy knows.

Just realized it myself as I was working on Lynch's sharkmouthed '38....

Should be no outline to the star and bar if the photos are to be believed.

It might be open to debate it if actually had yellow rudder tips too if photos of other aircraft from the same squadron are to be believed, as the majority of photos show them with the yellow ring on the spinner but no yellow tail tip.

White number was outlined in yellow as well.

Of course this is all after you putting the pressure on to find it :)

Had to do some real looking in my 475th stuff

Yep!  The outline to the Star and Bar is what I was thinking.  Drat, I wish I hadn't sent it in already, I guess I'll wait on the repairs until HTC acknowledges receipt of the skin with a Reference Number assignment, then send the fix in.   I'm guessing its easier for Skuzzy to deal with after it has a Ref No.

I'll add a 1 px yellow outline to the numbers as well, but I'm keeping the yellow tail tips!  I luv 'em.

Do you know Dan, in the 39th FS of the 35th FG, (Blue ID recognition color) were the aircraft numbers outlined in blue?  Or was that just a 475th thing?

Thanks!

All I've seen of 39th FS birds is white aircraft numbers.  I don't think the outlining etc took place in any of the squadrons until things started to ease up later in the war.  By that time the 39th had given up their 38s for Jugs because the 475th needed them.

Same with the 9th FS of the 49th FG.

Even the early 475th and 8th FS paint schemes were pretty basic and only started to gain more detail in late 43-early 44.

Long winded way to say I'd go with just white and no outline.

Most recognize the red markings of the 431st FS of the 475th.  Technically they were "Satan's Angels", with the 432nd using the yellow trim and the 433rd the Blue.

Over time the Satan's Angels tag has been applied to the 475th overall

Virginia Marie with the Blue is 433rd FS, while Impossible Ince is 432nd.  So you've got it made KillnU.  You can cover all 3 squads now :)

Actually, if you send an update of skin in where you do not have a reference number it is easier for me to just drop the previous submission like it did not exist.
Once you get the reference number then it is already setup to be reviewed.
Just be clear it is replacing a current submission where no reference number has been designated.

Nice skin though oboe.

Thank you for the tip and compliment.   I'll get it corrected and sent in by OEB day tomorrow.

I'll identify it as NEW SKIN RESUBMIT and include "Impossible Ince" in the email subject line.  I've got 3 P-38G skins submitted now and none have a reference number.    But the subject line and the name of the individual zip file identifies them clearly.

Thanks!
