Heh, what a novel idea -- wanting to GAIN weight.  Bulk up.  Muscle up.  Yeah, I   v a g u e l y   remember that sort of motivation, but it was a loooonnnnnnnng time ago.  

I was remarking to a friend who just turned 80 that I thought eventually older people would start losing weight and could start swilling milk shakes and stuff to not lose too much.

He said his weight kept increasing until around 78 when suddenly he started losing 10 pounds here and there at a time.  He said he now weighs what he did as a teenager.  

So enjoy the raging metabolism while you can, superpug1.  And of course you realize you're lucky because some poor souls have serious weight problems their entire life.  

When you start seeing signs of gaining more weight than you want, don't delay in adjusting your life style.  It's easier to fight a few pounds than a lot.

My dog gets to lie about all day, goes for walks now and again eats, drinks, gets shedloads of attention from every visitor to the house, can lick her own parts!

Oh wow if life was as simple ast that I'd gladly do a swap with her for a  break from the rat race!

He lived to good age (15) before infirmities finally got him.  

Through careful selection, often of the same type foods, I know just about what I can ingest at what times of day to either not gain weight or to sustain a slow but regular weight loss (e.g., about five pounds a month).  Just takes the discipline to do it.  

My dog never had the option to get fat.  He got his regular dry food in the morning and a can of dogfood in the evening.  Plus a few doggy bones for treats.  And he was in excellent shape most of his life.  

Later, when he got old and creaky and had some medical issues, we eased up and gave him more treats and his weight ballooned accordingly -- the same way too many treats inflate my waistline.  

I'm not doing the entire pet analogy, however.  He never got a daily glass of red wine, and I go on walks without a leash (which brings to mind seeing a San Francisco pimp walking three stunning women on leashes ... but that's another story).

What do you think?  Do you take as good care of yourself as you do your pets?


OMG, I forgot to feed the fish this month!  (at least they can eat each other and all of that algae.)
