Request CA-12 Boomerang
« on: March 18, 2005, 09:36:36 AM »
There seams to be a lot of Aussie's in AH, being one myself I think it would be cool to have an Aussie fighter in the game.... now which one to pick... Not a hard choice as there was only one The CA-12 Boomerang.

It went from drawing board to dropping zeros in 3 months (that's an aussie for ya... I could see the test flight now...

Test Pilot: I think there might be a problem with the carbs above 15,000

The Crew Chief pops the hood, puts down his hammer so he can keep hold of his XXXX (that's beer to you non Aussies) looks at the motor for a few seconds... closes the hood, sips his beer and says "Give five minutes mate, she'll be right :aok

Anyway here are the specs ect

this all came from here BTW

The CA-12 Boomerang, a small, robust, and agile fighter that the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) designed and built within a very brief space of time and that gave invaluable service from 1943 onward, proving to be unbeatable in a tactical role.

The Boomerang, the only entirely Australian-designed aircraft to see combat during World War II, was created by Lawrence Wackett

Tests revealed the CA-12 Boomerang to be basically without faults, easy to fly and very maneuverable.

Despite its overall inferiority compared to the powerful and effective Japanese fighters, the Boomerang was used with particular intensity as an interceptor throughout 1943.

Boomerangs entered service in October 1942 when the RAAF's No.2 Operational Training Unit at Mildura, Victoria, received its first aircraft.

Oof, only 305 at 15k?  That is slower than a spitfire isn't it?  Sounds like a spitV with less speed.  Give it a higher ENY and I would be fine with it I guess.  Seems like it would rank up there with the Hurri2C.

Not only is that slower than the Spitfire Mk I, by about 50mph, but it is slower than the Hurricane Mk I or the A6M2 or P-40B. It is slower than the Ki-43-I would be.  It would, in short, be the slowest fighter in AH unless biplanes are introduced.

Still its not bloody bad for a plane that went from designed to production in 22 weeks

Also I think it would be classed as an attack aircraft over a fighter

And then theres the fact its AUSSIE :aok

No, its not bad.

I'd like to see it too.  I was just putting its speed, or lack thereof, in perspective.

Well the obvious soloution here is biplanes then.  Bring on the Gladiator, I-153, Swordfish and any other goofy little plane you can think of.  These little badboys would totally embarass a spit in a turnfight.
