Ok Network geeks..I need your help
« on: March 25, 2005, 11:02:04 AM »
I appologize for the following question, as it doesnt really pertain to my use of AH2, but I have a networking problem that I cannot seem to figure out.
   My system:  AMD 1800+/ 1.5 gig pc133 memory/ATI 9600 Pro
   Netgear 10/100 ethernet card
   Linksys router
   Motorola Broadband modem
   Time Warner (Roadrunner)

Ok, here's my problem.  I just recently signed up for Broadband telephone service via Vonage.com (excellent service by the way)
After I connected to this service, anything I want to download is basically at a stand still.  I realize Broadband phone takes a lot of bandwidth (I have the phone service settings to the highest bandwidth..any lower and quality really gets affected).
Here's the strange part.  On a straight boot-up I have the above problem.  After I get to desktop, if i leave the computer on, and pull the power from my router for approx. 1 minute then plug it back in (obviously waiting for the computer to recognise the network again)
my download speeds are back to normal and there is no difference in the phone connection quality after I do this.
Not too terrible of a problem, but it gets annoying having to mess with the router.  Any ideas of what I can check for to get this working on a cold-boot?

You might check the firmware version on your Router and d/l the update if its needed.  I had a similar problem with a Netgear router that I solved that way.

try the latest setup files. I have no problems at all using the IP phone and downloads. I an using the Dlink that came with Vantage as firewall, setting port to redirect to my webserver on my orange network. My linksys, I use as a simple hub for my internal network.  am using WinXP Pro on and AMD2400/abit 7 with 1 g ram. I use wireless on my "green network" and just tap off hub. but when I fly, no one else gets to log on. :-) but the phone is always on.

hope that helps.

How are you connecting to cable modem? cable in, Dlink with voip phone next, Linksys router (set up as a hub. Dont use Wan or Uplink ports) and my wireless Linksys and game puter, plugs into that Linksys router. Use the Linksys router Disks that came with it for network discovery.
