Bailing Out from Gunner Position
« on: March 22, 2005, 12:34:30 PM »
Not sure if suggested before, but I don't recall seeing this one.

Could we get the ability to bail out of bombers from the gunner positions? I sometimes forget to switch back to the pilot seat to bail out of a damaged bomber that I was gunning in. This wastes many valuable seconds as your remaining bombers have no defensive guns aiming on attacking bandits. Bombers die easy enough now, it should be easier for the player to get out and start manning another gun position while there is still one to man.

Yeah, I always wanted something like. I guess it shouldn't be too hard to model?

Something that would be cool too, is when you bail out of a B-17, 10 parachutes appear.
When gunners get wounded, they won't bail out.

The gunners will open their chutes 3 seconds after bailing out (the original time) and disappear when hitting the ground.

Adds a little more realism to the game :)

Right up to the point everyone decides to use eight bomber formations and a C47 or two for a capture.  Step 1... kick drunks out, Step 2... bail out of all bombers (in effect filling the area with 250 chutes, ie. chaff).  Step 3... laugh as people auger trying to shoot the chutes with frame rates of 2.

I'll pass.

Now... if they could fix the bug that causes a gunner to get stuck and be forced to reboot after the last bomber goes down... that would be an accomplishment ;)

Ofcourse the AI bail-outs won't be able to capture a field (only the grunts from the Skytrain)

I understand but that's not the point...  the unnecessary challenge to the base defenders will then be:

1)  Find the REAL drunks in the chaff
2)  Be able to shoot anything while in slide show mode with 250 moving items for your system to track

It just opens things up to more "gameyness" than is necessary IMHO.

That's all well and good, but let's stay on topic.

The request is just to be able to bail out from the gunner positions without having to switch back to pilot position first. Thanks!:aok

You can do this as far as I know. Bailing out of the gunner's spot has caused quite a lot of inadvertent deaths.
