They are soft limestone, tumbled through the Hill country.  I have found about a dozen perfectly round ones.  They get trapped in  hole in the streambed and rotate for years.  Lots of arrowheads and fossils, too.

Just as fun is making wiers in the stream to create tube shoots, "hot-tubs" and fish traps.  This took the 10 of us 2 days to build (not working very hard, of course).
