Is this normal?
« on: March 31, 2005, 10:49:22 PM »
I'm only getting 2137 3dmarks using 3Dmark 2005..

Here are my specs..

Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
1 Gig of matched (400mhz ) ( running in dual channel mode samsung memory
K8T800Pro Mobo
Radeon 9700 Pro Video card..

I would think that I should be getting higher scores with my system..

Does anyone have any ideas?..

Post your results if you can with your system specs... I'd like to see where we all stand.

:)

3Dmark2005 measures your GPU performance, not so much your CPU.  It's your 9700 that's holding you back.  Also bear in mind that 3Dmark05 is designed for the current cutting edge cards and the next generation.

Even the current top-of-the-line cards struggle to manage 40+ FPS in '05's tests.

Heya Dinky,

Yeah, I hear you about the optimizations for the newer hardware. The strange this is,... I play things like doom 3, flight simulator, il2 etc.. and have super high frame rates accross the board.

You know, I've also been having a problem.. with my new system as of late.. It seems that when ever I run certain games,.. I'll simply freeze up.. and I have to hardboot.

Strange.. You know,.. I have updated my bios ( vidcard as well as mobo ).. , have all the latest drivers.. etc.. but strangeness happens.. It's really wierd..

I'm currently capped at 75hz running at 1280x1024 on my new 19inch LCD TFT display.

anyway,. all the "latest and greatest" programs.. run simply fantastic,.. ( with the exception of the in-game freezing) so.. I am somwhat shocked at such a LOW score on 3d2005
And,.. all the games that I'm playing I usually get at least refresh rate for my fps

Anyway,.. anyone willing to post some system specs,.. and performance numbers? I'd like to see.

2150 pts at 1280x1024 is quite a good score for 9700 card.

did you over-clock?

if not...

check the heat(CPU) for your lock-ups...

quote from Tom's Hardware Guide...

And one other thing: before installing the operating system, AMD recommends deactivating the APIC mode (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) in BIOS in order to boost performance. How does that work? When APIC is deactivated, you only have 15 available IRQs, instead of the standard 23. This puts the brakes on the system, making it go down to the level of Windows 98 and causing hardware conflicts under Windows 2000/ XP.
